AT Pro and silver?

John (Ma)

New member
Are there any air tests out there for silver with the AT Pro? Or even some actual hunts finding silver? I know it does well with gold and relics but was curious how deep it'll pick up various silver pieces? Thanks

I done one and it did include some silver coins. It does not really show how deep they will hit but it gives you an idea of the TID numbers.

Hi John I'm not new to detecting but I am new to the AT PRO. I've used quite a few machines over the years and still do. I do have my preferences on which ones work better for my area and ground conditions, and I like to use a machine for at least a full season or more before I claim to know its capabilities, and I hunt quite a bit. Our ground is still pretty frozen here in upstate NY but I was able to find some thawed ground over this past weekend, and lucky enough to swing my coil over a couple mercury dimes. The first one was about 6" deep a nice strong signal high tone and accurate ID. The second one was a solid 8" the signal wasn't as strong but it was a high tone and was repeatable. The ID# was a little jumpy but there was a small rusty nail in the same hole. I do think the AT PRO would have hit if it was a little deeper, an inch maybe two. If it was a larger coin, quarter or half dollar, no problem. But don"t get to caught up in depth I would say at least 80% of my good coin finds are less than eight inches mixed in with the trash and from what I've seen so far the AT PRO is going to shine at getting through the junk. Hope this helps

John, I found the smallest silver ever! email me and I will send you the pic! for some reason my form,at is to large for this forum!

It works great finding silver! I dug 5 silver rings, 3 silver necklaces, 2 silver earrings, 2 silver necklace drops, and 3 very small pieces of a necklace the times I took my AT out to some dried lake beds a while back when it warm. They all came in good and the machine locked in on them!

I've dug plenty of Silver coins ....No jewelry , but coins of all sizes ......It hits Silver nicely and rings out with that nice smooth Silver tone ......I was pretty surprised at how deep it hit Silver .....6+ inches is repeatable with good I.D. .........Nickels and items in the GOLD range ring out like a 5 alarm fire !!...... Silver like one a lot of machines rings out with a soft, flutely, like tone !!.....NICE !!..... Jim

I've had the AT Pro since the first shipment and love the machine. I've included a picture of the silver finds that I've picked up in the last few months. As far as depth goes the deepest silver was a dime probably around 6 - 7 inches. I've done extensive air tests and listed the results below. The deepest coin I've found was a V Nickel from 1888 which was 10+ inches deep. Also found a shield nickel from 1867 at around 8" deep. I know it will pick up an aluminum can at around 15" because I dug for about 45 minutes straight to find a mountain dew can in thick rocks and clay (don't ask how it got there)

I initially bought this for water hunting for rings but decided to play around on land while the weather is cold. It has proven to be a top of the line land machine as well. The picture above is just a fraction of what I've found (only silver). Would love to know any thoughts on using the AT Pro as I am always trying to learn more about the machine.

AT Pro Air Depth Tests Results:

Silver Merc: 7 1/2"
Silver Standing Liberty Quarter: 8 1/2"
Silver Liberty half: 9" - 9 1/2"
Indian Head: 8"
V Nickel: 9"-91/2"
3 ringer lead bullet: 9 1/2" - 10"

Standard mode is more for beginners. The main difference is in the audio signals. Standard mode will give a tone or no tone. Pro mode will let you hear the variation in the tone as it rolls over a target. If you're new to detecting you might try standard mode for a while. If you want to get serious and learn your machine well stay in pro custom mode and dig everything from the notch below nickel up. Pro mode is chattery as hell but you will eventually learn to distinguish trash from a good target. I can easily tell the difference between a newer zinc penny and an older copper one. I don't dig new pennies anymore... Always use your headphones, go slow, dig the deep signals in pro mode and you will start finding a lot with this machine. Today I found:

6 wheat pennies
1 1898 indian head
1 1956 silver rosevelt dime
1919 WWI medal
1944 5 cent mexican peice
and several dollars in clad.

For the price the AT Pro rocks! Not to mention it's 100% waterproof. Hunt in the rain, hunt in the river, shower your machine off when it's muddy =)
