Hi John I'm not new to detecting but I am new to the AT PRO. I've used quite a few machines over the years and still do. I do have my preferences on which ones work better for my area and ground conditions, and I like to use a machine for at least a full season or more before I claim to know its capabilities, and I hunt quite a bit. Our ground is still pretty frozen here in upstate NY but I was able to find some thawed ground over this past weekend, and lucky enough to swing my coil over a couple mercury dimes. The first one was about 6" deep a nice strong signal high tone and accurate ID. The second one was a solid 8" the signal wasn't as strong but it was a high tone and was repeatable. The ID# was a little jumpy but there was a small rusty nail in the same hole. I do think the AT PRO would have hit if it was a little deeper, an inch maybe two. If it was a larger coin, quarter or half dollar, no problem. But don"t get to caught up in depth I would say at least 80% of my good coin finds are less than eight inches mixed in with the trash and from what I've seen so far the AT PRO is going to shine at getting through the junk. Hope this helps
