AT PRO AND RINGS?

Where are you mostly finding rings with the AT PRO? Beach...park...elsewhere and what are the general VID numbers? I am expecting one in the next few days and can't wait until it get here. Will definite take that day off from work to go :dete Mcting:

Rings can be made of anything from Platinium, Gold, Copper, Aluminium, Brass, Silver. Then you have your plated. So your question is broad based being that the VDI #'s of the ring would depend on the material its composed of. Anything from 40--------the 90's. There is no magic VDI number.....those made of gold could run from the lower 40's up to the 80's and beyond depending on size and mass. Silver ones of any size are usually from the lower 80's on up depending again on the mass of the silver in the ring. Copper ones will be generally in the 80's.

Generally you find rings and jewelery where people gather in mass! The more people the better and the more active they are the better the chance of them shucking the jewels. Sport fields, recreational areas, beaches and swim areas, craft shows, wine tastings.....the list goes on.

Hey Reddog777, I remember seeing someone post a list of vdi# and it seem like just about every # was associated with a good target, as well as junk . I used to like using the perfect # to decide whether to dig or not but found that it is better to just listen for that solid repeatable sound.I use the # as a secondary source of info. Each target you dig is a hands on learning experience.Hope this helps. :pulltab:

The places you hunt can help you find more gold rings for sure. If gold is all you are after then you will need to dig every thing from zinc pennies down to foil.
You can leave the dime and quarter signals but will miss silver rings doing that. A very rare gold ring will even read higher than a zinc penny. The best discriminator is
A shovel.

I've found a few gold rings, and my experience so far, they have all come in the high 40's. Keep in mind they were all pretty small and they were all 14k. ---Wade

The last 3 gold I found hit on 53, they were different sizes also. 2 14k and 1 10k.

Yet another reason why I dig nickels and shot gun shells, many of these have been found by me at the VDI 52-53. DIG!

For some reason, VDI discussions are a very sensitive topic here. I agree that air tests are not the same - particularly in terms of depth sensitivity - but the VDI numbers are usually very close. I also agree that good targets can be found from 40-90, but MOST of my platinum and gold finds were 42-62. I dig every signal in that range, which means lots of foil and pull tabs. I have appended the settings for my ATP test below for reference.

NOTES - Air test was conducted in Pro Mode, 0 Discrimination, Ground Balance 74, Sensitivity -2 bars. Thin silver items registered much lower on the conductivity scale than larger items - generally in the area of foil and pull tabs. The sterling necklaces identified as thin were only found as a result of the attached charms. Without the charms, they were only detectible at approximately 1.5 - 2 inches and they had to be in a pile.

I was searching the forum for VDI numbers for Platinum...on the AT PRO. Came across this post by Shayne and thought I would bump it back up to the top. Very good test readings for many different objects.

good discussion. yep, ive seen gold ring up 40-70s, others experience may vary on mass, design, type, etc. some silver rings ranging from 70s to 80s, again varying. the jewelry is tricky. i dont feel like i have enough dig experience to have a good sense on that. even after having done test gardens and stuff, it is just very tricky.

the charts posted are great, however, to see that dynamic. good stuff.

I agree 100% with dgravedigger...There is NO magic numbers...even machine to machine the numbers vary slightly...You just gotta know man...It all comes with getting out there and learning what the machine is telling you...Start out by digging every signal that does not warble, then some that do, as long as they are in the 35-45 area, and the 55-85 area...You may get surprised...I have...Each time out I learn something new, and cannot see a time when I will stop learning...
