AT Pro and bottle caps

Avoiding bottle caps is a judgement call but as Jim just mentioned, tone is the key. In real trashy areas, experiment a little and you will get the hang of listening for the "iron audio grunts" in the tone on the edges as you move in on the target. The technique is something you will acquire but it does take some time. Iron Audio and Iron Discrimination are powerful features in the AT Pro for target identification.

Switch to a concentric coil, and the ID of most targets improves significantly. However, if you have high mineralization, DD coils punch deeper. This same scenario is apparent with all makes of detectors, with the exception of pulse detectors.

Slow your swing way down, run Pro mode, 0 disc and you should hear the scratchy iron audio.

Make yourself a trash garden with clad quarters - aluminum & steel bottle caps buried at different depths and practice. Aluminum bottle caps give off a target ID & audio almost identical to the quarter & is very hard to know for sure - however the carbon steel has a much different sound at the beginning & ending of the coil pass which is described in your owners manual - iron audio on will help. Practice helps and will only come to you after time. ID numbers will tend to jump on caps and quarters depending on depth. Wish you great finds while out dirt fishing with your ATP.

I find the Iron Audio spot on most of the time. But you will get used to grunts and breaks in signal as you go. But if you dig every target you will see you are missing things. No worrys, it isnt going anywhere. I also use a smaller 5x8 coil that helps with separation and trash. If you have iron close to a good target it is going to throw off your target ID. You also may see your numbers jump up and down by a lot, that is a good idea you have something other than a coin. I also turn my sens down a few bars when I hunt, and turn them up on iffy targets that break up. Pro Zero is the only mode I run beside pro custom which saves your last settings.

Now I notice your handle is F75 usr, well with the F75 you just pump the coil on a target and if you dont get a good sounding signal, its junk lol. Good Luck.

Generally I leave the Iron Audio OFF and swing fairly slow....

This works for ALL the various coils, DD or concentric.

Once I think I have found a coin target.....reading anything above about 70 (about 52 if your going for US Nickels)...

I will swing even slower and narrow in on it. Getting that nice mid/high coin tone sound.

Now...turn on your Iron Audio simply by pressing the button one time. Swing over the same spot. IS it the EXACT same sound....if so...probably a coin.

Or now is it kind of a grunt-high-grunt or grunt-mid-grunt tones........these are probably BOTTLE CAPS.

I have found this to be 90-99% reliable after you get a bit used to it.....at first maybe only about 75-80% reliable.

Just takes a little practice and REALLY LISTEN to the tones.

Scan some ground first to make sure no tones. Then , lay a penny, dime, quarter on the ground (space them apart a bit and a bottle cap.

Try what I said above.....I GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK FOR YOU!!!

Take time and listen to the tone, its louder and different than a coin, if the edges of the bottle cap is facing upward the VDI numbers jumps and gives you a grunt sound reqardless of the Iron audio on or off, every once in a while the ones that fool me is the one that's smash flat, but if you listen carefully the tone is louder, hope this helps

Yup. I can confirm the tone is alot louder. Also, when you pinpoint, the tone is also louder and almost impossible to get the low volume short tone. I'll check some youtube videos to see if anyone has ever covered this pinpoint tone. Those corona caps are a pain, when they're flattened out, they read smack on 76, where most coins are, and makes me mad I dug them up... My garbage pouch usually fills up quite quickly.

sound of the grunt and trial / error. I have hunted gor hoirs at sites and only heard grunts of iron trash, tgen I hear that ping/grunt and get perked up only to find out its a rusted bottle cap. Keep swinging though because the silver coins are out there as I find them myself. My 1st Standing Liberty quarter was hard searched for in a really iron trash area. Bottle caps can be hiding coins too.

That wiggle off!

Last year I had the opportunity to detect a private grass field that was used as a pre-concert parking lot. Tons of bottle caps and tons of experience digging them! I concluded that the difference between a bottle cap tone and a coin tone is the same as their physical appearance. Bottle caps are ragged around the edges and so is their tone. Coins are smooth around the edges and so is their tone. Get it?

You need to have some disc for iron audio to work. I like 25-35 depending on how old an are I am in. Garret's video below explains how to tell a bottle cap
