i just dont get it? one person air test's 16" on a Gold ring and another persons does a utube test cant get 12" on anything?? maybe the settings.thought both were in auto.and there is already one for sale used?...after just one day? i was going to get one but i think i will wait a while and see what more people think.

It was me that put the AT Pro up for sale. I have been detecting for almost 40 years and I use sound more than anything else to make my finds. I bought the AT Pro because it is waterproof, with waterproof headphones, and I detect in the mud in the UK a lot. I wasn't concerned about the calibration for the UK since I hunt with the discrim wide open all the time and rely on sound. My problem is simple. The audio on the Garrett is like something from Mars to me. The standard mode is bongs (which tell me nothing I am used to) and the pro mode is just plain unique. I know all about sensitivity settings and discrim, particularly here in KY. I could not get the machine to suit me regardless. I will never take the time required to learn the audio at a confident level. Better to sell it than let it lay around.

There is a lot to like if you can live with the sandpaper sound. First, the machine is bullet proof with the quality of construction you would expect from Garrett. Second, I dug a 6 to 7 inch war nickel in heavy mineralized KY soil, and regardless of what anyone says, KY soil is the toughest there is, including the UK. No comparison. If it will get it here it will get it anywhere. Second, I dug a small slick faced cuff button at six inches in the same soil. Third, I dug a minnie ball at about 4 to 5 inches. All three of these targets were missed by several other machines, including a multi frequency unit.

You can't teach an old dog like me many new tricks, and by now I know my own limitations. I will never take the time to learn the audio so better to sell.

I search in the ground not in fresh air. come on you guys with the A T Pros post some honest reports of how it performs in the field, until then I shall keep my tongue in cheek Hmmmmmm.

:usaflag:What is the "sandpaper sound"?

If you're referring to my vid, I actually did get 12" later on several targets I didn't film, including some of the same targets in the video. However, when I ran the test in the vid I had not balanced the machine-it was right out of the box and all I did was change to 'Pro' mode. I'll post some better air tests later but as one poster pointed out, the real results are what you find in the ground! My Minelab Excal didn't air test very well at all but I'll guarantee you it hit on some targets that made me wonder just how deep stuff can sink to! I'm not talking completely about sand either! Air tests are an interesting benchmark, but real field results will tell the tale you should most want to hear!

Yes i am thinking about cancell my order it seems that the AT Pro international is the good one the AT Pro for the USA is not up to par.

The pinpointing was excellent and so was the ID. Much better than what I usually work with. I think generally multi freq machines are tougher to pinpoint with, and with the 15khz the results are what you would expect.

It will be interesting too see a few actual user field tests to see if the at pro is gonna live up to all the hype that has been going around here the last month or so.

I am on the ATPro shipping list and waiting. I know what you mean by not recognizing the tones. I started out with Garrett and finally got talked into buying a Minelab Safari. It was like a foreign language to me after listening to the Garrett tones for so many years. All I ever got with the Safari was confused! l sold my Safari earlier this week! Onus

Well three tones may not seem like much and I would prefer a few more but I have been swinging a single tone machine for several years so everything is relative. At Pro still hasnt arrived.

Thats why i bought the ace 350. Im waiting til all the reports are in before i buy the AT PRO.

That is an honest and fair reply.

I'm curious about your hot ground you say in Kentucky. What were the numbers the machine displayed when you ground balanced it? If it was 90-100% then thats some hot dirt. In Georgia the ground balance on an AT PRO should balance around 70-75%. In Oregon it would be 90-95%. I'm using my GTI 2500 as a reference. Its a 1-12.7 scale as the AT PRO is a 1-100 scale.

Sorry, I do not recall. I ground balanced often trying to quiet it down and since I am not used to these readings they didn't register with me.

I bought a 2500 and a sea hunter used from the same man this summer. I only used the sea hunter, it was like my old machine...I like the 2500 but it has a learning curve as do all , some way more than others I used a friends AT Pro the other day and he used my 2500.He did not want to spend the money for the 2500. The AT Pro is great.. I replased my stolen detectors with a new 2500and a Infinium LS. I was so taken with how simple the AT Pro was I ordered onre that night. Its what you like and are use too. A friend of mine bought my old Garrett detector that was 30 years old Istill liked it. I have seen him find more in a day than my buddy with his $3000 mine lab. I use to say you have to did alot of trash to find the good stuff. Thats still true but the AT Pro and 2500 not so much.

I look forward to my AT/Pro arriving next week and I can give some feedback on how it works after using it awhile. I went to the river today and found 98 cents and a chain that looks like it's gold plated, but I haven't cleaned anything up yet. It's frustrating trying to use my 2500 with the water level where it's just a few inches away from the control system. I don't think any of the coins are silver, but have to clean them up later tonight to be sure. I found a pouch full of nails and pop tops near the shore. With the AT/Pro I can get out far enough from the shore to miss most of the pop tops and other junk. I can't wait to try out the at/pro next week. HH.

The ATP will take you places and beyond, I'm pretty impressed so far with mine and I think for the money it kicks some serious ASS! :detecting:
I never measure depth on targets but have used a variety of machines over the years and the ATP holds her own in many environments.......its a pretty good machine for a VLF. If your worried about depth buy a BBS or PI machine, it will cost double even tripple on some machines but each to there own I guess. Good luck with what machine you decide to go for.
Cheers!

well i have found over 20 rings last year an in the past four months i have found TWO 1772 an a 1786 coins with my Pro doesn't get any better then that!! would you beleive they were only about 8 to 10 inches down!!
