Should I get the AT Pro?..... Is the AT Pro really waterproof?..... What's with the AT Pro's pro-mode?..... Does the AT Pro hit hard on silver?..... Is the AT Pro good in trash?.....
I got an AT Pro for about a year. I got it as a back up for my Etrac, after being rained out a few times and not wanting to take the chance on getting a $1500 detector fried.
I have actually pulled it out of the SUV a few times over the Etrac. It's a totally different monster. If you want to run the AT Pro like an ACE250 or ACE350 you can do that. IF you want to run the AT Pro hot hot hot!, and in Pro-Mode, and Iron Audio=ON, you will see a MONSTER of a machine!
The recovery speed is amazing and in Pro-Mode and Iron Audio=ON, it's awesome hearing the deep silver hidden in the garbage in a park that you know has been hunted out with the Etrac, V3i, F75, DeLeon, 2500, and other top-end machines.
Now you wonder why I titled the post 'AT Pro AK 47' ......?
Anyone who is a gun collector or military knows the reputation of the AK47's toughness. I had the AT Pro in the pouring rain, packed the coil with mud and set it down in the mud to dig, rolled it over the hill and into a creek (I had no headphones on, and luckily had the headphones cap on the head unit), and banged it into countless rocks and trees, and it still kept firing! When I got home the AT Pro looked like it had been in a war. REALLY! I wish I had got a pic! Field stripped it and cleaned it and it's now as shiny as a new penny!
I had the AT Pro in the surf on vacation in the Outer Banks, NC with waves washing over it! My thought was 'it's under warranty and if it fries, I'll send it back to Garrett'. It was awesome in the surf.
The AT Pro is a durable machine! Just like the AK47, the design helps! It's a single enclosed durable head unit with the coil jack and headphones jack tucked safely underneath it. The face/buttons are well designed to be tough and waterproof (yes I pushed the buttons while I was in the crashing surf, and they are TIGHT!). The 3 pole system needed cam locks after it initially came out. They added them to all the models and they crank down nice and tight.
If you are ever considering one detector to have, the AT Pro is a great choice. I have a good friend who uses it as his only detector and as his main, and has smoked me a few times. I have had it for my back up and have used it a lot because it is fun, quick, and it is reliable.
Garrett has a gem in the AT Pro. I think a lot of their 'green machines' are ourdated, but they hit GOLD with the AT Pro! No kidding!
I threw in 2 pics of the merc I hit on Easter Sunday. As you can see, I was in the mud, and I wished I got a pic of the AT Pro totally mudded up before I cleaned it.
