I went to a tot lot that was sand instead of mulch or wood chips. I was in standard/zero mode, iron discrimination at 40. My detector kept turning itself off. I set it down to use my sand scoop and several times the detector turned itself off. I put new batteries in today before I got to the park. Could it be my battery case or something wrong with the plug?

Maybe your batteries were worn out, or one of the batteries was faulty. Changing to a new set should answer that question. Good luck!

The other possibility is that the battery connection isn't staying connected. I've read of that problem sometimes with the AT's. You may need to put a small piece of foam, or something similar, behind the battery holder to make a tighter fit.

I think HPH hit your problem...that happened to me once a few years back too...I just popped the cork of the battery box and made sure that cartridge was seated good...I didnt have to add the foam, but I will if I have to..between what John said and HPH...you should be good to go..:detecting:
