Took a couple hours to swing it Sunday - went back to my standby IH park. I started with my 6in DD coil for awhile. I tell you, that coil can really sniff out targets! I hit a spot that had multiple targets in a small radius. Two "bangers" and in between, the coil was picking up a high pitch but softer target. Turns out there was a screw cap and another flattened screwcap close by each other and deeper between them were two wheats about 3 inches apart. I'm sure I would have missed them with a bigger coil. Despite this, I was finding that I didn't have enough patience that day for the small coil so I put my Pro-coil back on.
I picked up a couple deep IHs and a few wheats soon after. There was a spot I wanted to hit near a park bench but someone was sitting on the bench facing where I wanted to search. I don't mind if people come by or sit down after I start searching - but for some reason I don't like to start with someone on top of the area I want to go. I figured I'd go to another area and wait for them to leave - well I'm glad I did!! Within a few minutes I got a nice deep warble. My mind was distant at the moment and I wasn't expecting silver - but there it was! I remember saying to myself: "I hope it's at least a Barber". As I picked it up I saw the seated figure. DANG! Seated dime - 1891!
Then I picked up an interesting medal or fob with the Kansas state seal (marked "genuine bronze" on the back).
The frosting on the cake was that last night when I started to clean them, one of the IHs that I thought was a fattie turned out to be a Flying eagle - 1857!
Totals this hunt:
Flying eagle 1857
IH 1905
8 wheats incl a 1912 & 1919
Seated dime 1891
Thanks for sharing, Bruce
