At max threshold.

Hi, I am a new member from the uk, I have just purchased an at max and am yet to have it out in the field.
My question is about my at Max’s this threshold, I understand how threshold works and even on the Garretts own instructional video it say use thresh at a level where it’s “just”audible as a low level hum. Well on my detector with the threshold set at zero it’s silent as to be expected but then when set to 01 through the headphones it is far from a barely audible noise.
Saying it is loud would be an overstatement but it is defiantly louder than just audible background hum.

I am hoping this is not a fault on my machine as apart from this all the signs are good this is going to be a great machine and with its standard coil has air tested depths comparable to my pro with the Nel thunder coil.

So please how loud is the threshold on your machine set at +1 is it really low as I expected or more on par with mine.

Thanks in advance.

I've tried all metal a few times .The threshold is either totally quiet or too loud on my machine so I just stick with Zero mode.

Thanks for the replies, I hope to meet someone this Sunday at an organised dig to see how the threshold volume compares.

John, why do you think that is? I have watched the video's and I don't recall them saying that. I have seen you have stated it multiple times and I believe you but just wondering why.

Probably because the true all metal mode is by far deeper then the other limited modes. It is also sensitive to all conductive objects, so it would make sense, especially when either hunting for gold nuggets or deep targets, to give the threshold to that mode. Putting the threshold on zero discriminate, would only allow it to function at shallower levels.
