A cool morning it was. Had to scrape the frost off the windows. Met my buddy at McDoggies, headed out to a spot, and there was snow in the trees with the waters starting to freeze.

Here is that beautiful piece of jewellry I dug. I could not believe it was from th 40's, and further research showed that one recently in very good condition sold for $600.00 at an auction.

An old whiskey or water flask with the owners name inscribed on it. Some of these fetch a good dollar on Ebay.

And here are the coins from today. Got some nice keepers. One of the best hunts this year.

Beautiful! Those are all interesting and old finds! :clapping: I have not found a silver thimble yet, or any of that other stuff in your post, except the shotgun shells..! That silver flask is worth some money I bet..

ATCold Guys? Nice twist on the Lilly of the Valley.

This should make others take a closer look at the history of an object unearthed.
My biggest OOPS was that I found a ring that did not fit my wife but did fit the finger of one of her friends.
The woman wanted to buy the ring...so I sold it (my first sale of a found ring for me) for twice the gold value plus $5 for the stone.
A couple of years later I found out who David Yurman was and what the ring was really worth. Oh well, easy come easy go and I made one person very happy. I am sure the woman also had no idea of who David Yurman was when she bought the ring. She does now. The hobby for me is not about the value of an object but rather its history and helping others out of a bad situation and feel good.

Ah the thimble...in 32 years, I have never found one, let alone a silver one. Maybe I need to get out of the water and back onto the land.
But I have found an unopened pint of Jim Beam in a river...It would really make the flask whole again if you could find the cap.

Those are cool finds, especialy the thimble.

Lovely finds, John. Made my day when I saw this post. The jewelry and the thimble are top notch finds and I want to find a thimble so bad. Anybody ever found a gold thimble? I thought sure I would get to go dirt fishing yesterday or today, but getting stranded at the park last Thursday did a number on my back and neck and slipping on the last porch step due to stiffness the next day didn't do me any good. Saving what I got left detecting wise for this Saturday at the river. High predicted of 64 with a wind up to 30 miles an hour and gusts a little higher than that. It won't be bad with a wetsuit, but with chest waders, I probably couldn't stay long. GL & HH. Seeing posts like these makes me want to go dirt fishing, no matter how bad my bones ache.

I would love to find a gold thimble too. I was surprised so many good finds came from that old picnic grounds. The thimble was dug up near an old house.

It's always interesting to do a search on stamps on items. That Lily broach had a Pat. Number stamped on it. I searched it, perhaps getting something 15-20 years old. What a surprise I got. You got to dig those iffy signals.

I guess finding a whiskey flask at an old pic-nic site isn't really a surprise, however, it's age and a signature on it sure was.

Those are really great finds, each with stories and knowledge to be gained. That's what's really great, we get exposed to all kinds of factual tidbits from researching our finds. Silver thimbles are always prized and I've been fortunate to find a couple. John, you came up with so many older goodies, that's so rewarding.
HH - Bruce
