You'll get more for it if you sell it as a jewelry piece.

Don't sell it. Gold prices are down. Every time I sold any gold or silver I look back and wish I had not done it.

I get an idea from a jeweler of what a piece would sell for new. Then I advertise the piece as jewelry, and price it on average of 40-45% of new value. Usually averages out to be about double melt value. And really, if its not broken or hideous...why destroy it. At gold prices today there is a fair market for people trying to save money and buying gently used jewelry. Melt value of the Plat. Ring I found today is around $405. I called a jewelry store that sells Camelot jewelry to get a rough idea of value. She said between $1500-$2000 new. So IF I was going to sell it I would probably ask around $750 and let them talk me down alittle.

Way to go Mickfin, glad you found some of the good stuff. I will have to do some water detecting with you and Lake Hunter this summer so that you can teach me the ropes.

Hey,
Nice bracelet I love it when the big gold shows up. The best place I have is American Recyclers at 98% spot.
