AT Gold won't hit a 6-1/2" dime?

I went out detecting with my Etrac and let my friend try out the At Gold. I hit a good silver signal and cut the plug and removed the dirt. I spotted a silver dime on edge and called my friend over to see if the At Gold would hit it. I was pretty sure it would. I left the dime alone and put the plug back in and he swept over it in disc 1 and 1 bar from max sensitivity. Nothing!! Not a peep. So i opened the hole and put the dime flat. Still nothing. I went to all metal and upped sensitivity to max and barely got a peep. Certainly would not dig it. The machine was ground balanced. I am actually concerned that I spent 700 dollars on a machine that can't hit a dime between 6-7 inches. Just wondering if I am missing something here.

I highly suspect its because the ground was disturbed from the initial dig. Next time you get a 6-8" deep coin reading with the Etrac, check if your A T will hit it before digging the target. Good luck. HH jim tn

Better yet, contact Garrett srevice and see if you can send that detector in for evaluation and service. I would not have had that problem with my AT Gold.

I also should mention this was with the 8.5 x 11 coil . I do notice that every so often the detector makes a weird noise. Not a null but a blanking high pitched whine. Can't really explain it. When it does that nothing can be detected. It only lasts a few seconds and returns to normal. I need to get that on video.

But my V3i will with 4x6 coil
And Deus gets it no problem
PS: have you heard about nail board test it is in V3i forum I have try my ATP w/6x8 coil and I am very disappointed

How does it air test? can you even get the dime that deep on an air test?

OK. I did a quick air test with a dime. It hit it at 7 to 7-1/2 inches all modes and sensitivity 2 bars below max. I am not sure why it couldn't hit the buried dime but maybe it was interference as my etrac was fairly close by.

That seems about right. Could be the ground was mineralized pretty bad too.
