AT Gold with 8.5x11 coil?

Strudel

New member
Hello Fellow Enthusiasts!

I'm a newbie here having just recieved an AT Gold as a Christmas present from my wife. I'm racing to learn as much as I can!

I have been searching for a while and was wondering if anyone had ever tried using the 8.5x11 coil with the AT Gold on all metal mode searching for gold. I'm sure one of you out there has tried this. If so could you say a few words?

Kind regards,
-Strudel

I'd be surprised if somebody in the know doesn't show up pretty soon. Might inquire on some prospecting forums, too. I believe the 11" coil will work fine for nugget hunting, but I have the A T Pro so can't say for sure. HH jim tn

For prospecting for gold in creeks or deserts, a small coil like the 5" x 8" coil or the sniper coil is much more effective. The larger 8.5 x 11 coil could miss some of those tiny pieces of gold. Now, for searching for gold rings, it will work just fine.

Many detectorists utilize different coils for their machines. Larger coils get better depth, but cause more problems in higher mineralized areas. They also have issues with areas loaded with junk. Smaller coils can pick out good targets amongst the junk, are more sensitive to tiny bits of gold and do better in heavier mineraized soils. Sometimes adding another coil to your arsenal is the equivalent of getting another metal detector.
