AT Gold... Whats the vdi reading on 18k and 24k rings??

silver lining

New member
Can anyone with the AT Gold tell me what vdi reading you get on 18/24k gold rings? I have found class rings vdi around 35 to 40 and a 10k small ring vdi was 40 to 45, I think that's wright?? Any info would help as I'm off tomorrow and looking forward to a long day searching my local lake for big rings.

wow great finds! Your going to find gold to be between 39-70 larger rings in 60s i believe. So it really depends.

Awesome!! Thanks for your reply. I had a long day of searching sand bar at our local lake. By the time I got boat ready and made it out there, it was already approaching noon. I put on my wet suit (water was 65F) and started searching. I searched remainder of the day, only stopping two times to eat and drink as the workout was extreme. Water was 3' to 4' deep. I thought I would find jewelry, but I think someone got there first. We had a drought 4 years ago and I'm thinking this is when all the good stuff was found. I've heard people say that they lost rings out there, so I know ring should still be there. However, I only found $1.39, bullet shell and broken aluminum parts from boats running aground. Still had a great time and look forward to digging a big ring. Sounds like I should pay close attention for vdi Readings 39 to 70. Thanks for advice.

Hey another peice of info for you! The following tip is going to give you more depth. After you auto ground balance and the detector balances out then put the ground balance in manual and go down about 5-15 numbers for more depth on silver items. If you want more depth on Gold items then after you ground balance your detector go up 5-15 numbers! Unfortunately if the lake is popular and one of the places a detectorist would go first then chances are you are correct it probably was cleaned out. Good luck on your next hunt!

I recently found an 18K necklace that bounced between 38-43. I have also gold in the 50's/60's...depending on size and soil.

Nitemare26,
If I change auto ground balance will it change TDI (vdi) reading?

JoshuaA,
Great find!! I checked out your pictures. Thanks for the TDI readings. Keep them coming.

I got to swing my AT Gold again today. This time I tried a deferent lake. After 3hrs. I found around $2.00 or so. It was a great day to be outside, only wish I could hunt all day, but work calls and I answer. I really like this AT Gold and I'm getting very familiar with it. Purchased it November 2011. It's a great machine!! It was a great day to be alive, but aren't they all..

Yep after you auto GB and then drop down the gb manually about 5-10 your coins will read a couple ticks higher. Yes they are all great days to be alive. Heck I was at the beach for 9 hours . It felt like my arms gonna fall off! lol about 7$ in coins but not even 1 peice of junk jewelry. Ketchup packets foil and a condom wrapper. Seem the jersey beaches are peoples dumping grounds

Great info!! Thanks. Yea, the lakes in NC/SC are also full of trash (twist tops and pull tabs). Some people think the Earth is there trash can. To bad they don't handle jewelry the same way. The ATG works good at eliminating must of it, but if in dough, I dig it. Don't want to miss any gold...
