Hi Guys,
It's been awhile since I had any finds worth posting. It seemed like the old water hunting holes were beginning to dry up. So, when my hunting buddy and I packed up our ATG's and headed out to one of the local lakes, my expectations were running low. After an hour of digging up a hand full of pull tabs and an encrusted Lincoln, I scooped up another pull tab sounding hit and saw it was a ring. After wiping it clean, it began to shine and the 14K stamped on the inside confirmed it was gold. Another 45 minutes passed with more pull tabs and a few pistol balls then came hit #2 ... another ring. This one was a real sparkler. I thought it was junk at first until the 14K mark showed itself again. I had hopes that I had some real diamonds (Big bucks!) but subsequent testing showed that the stones were something else ... probably white sapphires ... still an exciting find. A couple of hours passed with more pull tabs, pistol balls and a few odds and ends then a coin hit. I scooped up a blackened silver coin of some kind but couldn't make out what it was. Another swing over the hole and out popped a 1836 large cent. I took the black coin home and ran it through electrolysis ... ended up being a worn 1807 draped bust dime (my first one). I've made several posts over the past few years about never giving up on a hunting spot. I guess I should follow my own advise.
Here's some pic's ....
The rings ... 14K band and 14K sparkler
