AT Gold Squealing

Skull Botherer

I've had the machine a month or so but after going in a river the other day it's started squealing like the proverbial piggy on nearly all settings. AM mode on -9TH needs the sensitivity reduced to 2 03 r bars which is unnacceptable loss of functionality. Otherwise it's like a canary, even in air tests, blurting 38's-43's like Snowden at the Russian Embassy. I think it could be the coil but I've also heard others with the same problem dating back a few years. No reply back yet from emailing Garrett customer services.

No, it's not supposed to do that. Did you do a Factory Reset? Put fresh batteries in and the do the Reset, see if that quiets it down.

OK
All may not be doom yet. I reckon somehow the sensitivity has increased. I've just spent some time experimenting and all metal mode is a waste of space. By cranking up the iron disc on disc1 I'm getting clearer tones at greater depth, and with the different audio tones.
Just as long as D1 doesn't go the same way as AMM :ukflag:

Have you tried using Alkaline batteries to see if it does the same thing? Some detectors do not like the rechargeables.

Shiite it's made no difference. Oh well looks like I'll just have to adapt (AMM, -9TH, and 2 bars down on the sensitivity is just usable by really slowing down the swing. Never really did like AMM :) )

I run in Disc1 and my iron discrim is about 33, just enough to slightly break up the tones on normal sized rusty nails; and with iron audio on. Anything non-ferrous in the iron will jump out with nice solid tones.

Cool and on another forum someone said the adaptor point between the control box and coil lead can be a bitch so i played around with it a bit and hey guess what, seems like it's back to normal...... in the meantime I'd been running D1 at 40 iron disc and was happy as there's no gold here in the UK other than rings and buried treasure arrgh!

The only problem with running wide open 40 discrim is that if a non-ferrous target is next to a iron target you will not hear either.
