AT Gold question

New member
I am trying to decide on whether to buy an AT Pro or the Gold. One dealer says that the Gold is more sensitive to things like bullets and buttons. Greater sensitivity sounds great but I wonder what might be any downside(s) to the Gold. Thanks for any advice.

I think the only downside is that there is no notch feature other than the pre programmed one in mode two. I found the audio smoother on the gold vs the pro. No question for me personally I prefer the gold actually I would never buy the pro no matter what the cost. Gl with your decision

The Gold is more machine. If you just want coins in city parks the Pro probably better choice. The Gold has a powerful All Metal mode. At full power a piece of aluminum foil the size of the end of a pencil eraser sounds like a silver dollar. LOL

I have used both and I prefer the Gold!!

I think I read on here that the Gold is not good for salt water beaches. I have a Pro, which I love, and it's hard to control even it on a hot beach.

Thanks to all for your replies. For those who are using the Gold, does it do well for relics and for silver?

It does great on silver gives a nice smooth tone on deep silver. Does very well on small silver like dimes and smaller

It is more sensitive and deeper to bullets and buttons, however, can not be used in salt water. Here is a comparison chart between the Pro and the Gold.

Thank all of you for your help and advice. I ordered the Pro this morning after agonizing over the chioice. I really wanted the Gold but went with the Pro for saltwater use.

Good luck with the pro but if you beach hunt a lot I'd look at a infinium they handle salt water beaches better. The AT-Pro is a beast to tame on salt water beaches.

That's what I have read, but with the Gold there was no chance of salt water usage and this was in my price range.

I own the Pro, Gold and Infinium. That's only because I haven't sold the Pro yet! I prefer the Gold, and with it plus the PI, I'm set for whatever!

I don't think you can go wrong with either personally. I think the gold gets a little more depth. I love both detectors. If they have a spring package with both coils in would get the pro. Otherwise I would get the gold. That 5x8 is the way to go.
