AT Gold lower shaft too flexible

Spaceport

New member
Recently bought a new AT Gold and I love it. The only issue is the lower shaft wobbles when I swing. I do not recall this on my two AT Pros... The shaft is way too flexible for my liking.. ..does anyone know of another brands stiffer shaft that will work with the AT series center shaft and mate up?

Thats odd...a fellow would think they are one and the same right?

When you say flexible, do you mean the lower shaft itself flexes? Or at the junction where it slides into the aluminum tube?

I'm reading this as if your main lower rod feels like its comprised of a softer plastic than your Pros had, and you are getting coil whip and twist? If this is the case, I'd blow that lower rod full of that product called 'Great Stuff' that folks use to insulate around a window or something...its some sort of expandable foam readily available at your local hardware store, I bet filling the lower tube with this stuff would stiffen it up quite a bit....would not recommend it if you are water hunting though, but like we know, a guy cant swing fast in water anyway, so I'm making the assumption you are not..come back...

I have a AT-Gold now and had a AT-Pro and the shafts on neither weren't wobbly even using the 8.5x11" coil on either one. I'd say if you have a fast swing speed then that may be the culprit at it flexing if not you may want to give Garrett a call and find out to see if there's been any defective ones that got past quality control.

Be sure cam is screwed tight. Might need disassembling and cleaning. Should be no play or torsion.

I do not get excessive flex even with the 15" coil attached.

If I did I would get a dowel rod and glue it in.

That is weird because it seems like the AT Pro and AT Gold should have the same everything, except for the guts of the control box. You should just be able to get another AT Pro lower shaft, and maybe that will fix the problem. Plugger is also now making a straight shaft for the AT Pro/Gold.
