Asteroids and detectors

How will asteroids register on a detector. Will they bounce around on different metals or are they solid on one particular metal?

As they may or may not be a different composition...in other words not all the same....by the way some of them could be valuable so if you think you have one perhaps a local college has the ability to do this for you..

I believe you are referring to meteorites not asteroids since they are different. Not busting your chops but meteorites are the ones we seek in the ground. Most of the composition of what falls out of the sky and can make it to earth is going to be made of nickle and iron or just iron. Most stone meteorites simply burn up before getting through to earth.
Meteorites are quite a find and I hope this helps you out.
