YOU CAN HUNT THE STATE PARK FROM MEM. DAY TO LABOR DAY. OCEAN CITY IS GOOD ALL YEAR. OC HAS BEEN SANDED IN LATLEY, BUT GOOD HUNTING MOST OF THE TIME. HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK IF YOU COME TO OC. MY FRIEND JUST FOUND A GOLD BRACLET WITH NINE DIAMONDS AT 23 STREET. JEFF

you can detect on chincateague but not the beach on assateague due to being a national sea shore was what i was told when i was stationed there in the coast guard

Thanks all for the input.

Did some research with the Fed bureau of land mgmt and found, "Metal detectors may be used on public lands... for lawful purposes. Any act with a metal detector that violates the proscriptions of ARPA or any other law is prosecutable thereunder." [Will have to dig deeper for a definition of "lawful purposes"]

However, I will bring mine next time I go to Assateague to go kayaking bayside and will ask at the ranger stations at both the state park and the nat'l park. If not, OC is just a few minutes away...
