Aside From The most Obvious Rewards From Metal Detecting Such As Monetary Value or Historical Value, What Other Benefits Do You Get?

Since I have been coin collecting since I was 12, metal detecting has been my number one means of adding various silver coins and others to my collection. My last count a few years was about 1,450 found silver coins and about 18 gold coins bought with clad. When I started buying a yearly gold coin with my clad, gold was not near as mach per ounce as it is today. It ended up being a truly good investment.

Coin collecting was what got me in the detecting hobby back in 1972, but I no longer collect coins. When I retired almost eleven years ago now, I began a daily routine of hunting early mornings for an average of four hours and save for really bad weather, travel and the occasional other interruption, that is still my routine. I look at the hobby as a challenge for finding old coins, jewelry and the exercise and fresh air it affords me. HH jim tn

Friends ...................... new friends who have become best friends... has been the best gain..

secondary..an intense interest in history, and historical places..

Just getting out and getting my mind off everything is precious to me. finding something special just adds icing to the cake, so to speak. Fresh air, elbow room and this wonderful world God has given us sure is encouraging.

same here, when i'm detecting im not thinking of anything

I am the same.....i enjoy getting outdoors. Learning the history of a place, especially where some research leads me to some cool finds.
And i guess it is the "challenge" of the days hunt to grab up some nice silver or mabey a ring.

Also enjoy finding those "good for...." ....tokens. Some folks call them hard times tokens....any rate. I think those are neat.

I just enjoy being in the outdoors. Ever since I was old enough to walk I was in the fields, hedgerows, woods, the ditches etc. I grew up with a fantastic love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing. As I got older my hunting has slowed down, and fishing is almost nill . Metal detecting has taken me back to my childhood again, as I detect the very fields and woods I walked and played in as a kid I can see us kids as we picked up old horse shoes and arrow heads. Now today I use a metal detector .......and I cant find a horse shoe...LOL.
I like to study the old maps and then pinpoint where a house was, go there and start finding relics and history, and of course the buried horde of gold bars that we all dream of.

A way to get out away from everything, Truly relax with friends and have a good day no matter who finds what.
