I have the Canon 20D for me and my hockey shooting endeavors. What would be a good bang for the buck lens for shooting family stuff without degrading the camera's abilities. I am used to the quality the 70-200mm L lens gives but is there anything without so much reach that is really a quality and more versatile lens?

Should I just save my money for another L lens?

Thanks... Guvner..

Something in the 17-55mm range would be good for you.
Nikon's 17-55 lens is about $1000.00

It takes very good pictures and it compliments the Canon 70-200 quite well. But it's a bit big for carrying around at family functions and such. I am seriously thinking about buying another Canon 17-40, that was a very versatile and easy to carry lens.
