So, guess what kind of detector I have in waiting [besides also a compadre]? And where I'm from? Try New Mexico, on the Rio Grande Sluice Box......
and home of those old spanish treasure areas............ that go back to 1592 and stories of aztec gold.....

My first question....... What is a reasonable and relatively good way to build/buy/fabricate an extended handle scoop for sand, rocks, and gold debri?

I would like to find another one of these 162 oz. nuggets in the wild wild desert west......... I don't care if it is underwater or on the surface.......

The more treasure you look for the more you will find...... the more you will find the more you will look for.... ..there isn't enough time.......

Cheers

I am not from that area and have not hunted the ground conditions you are looking at.

One book I have, showed people using shovels and various mesh sizes of sieves when looking for gold and quartz with gold in unspecified areas of the southwest US. Am wondering if the sand and rock is too loose for a shovel to work where you are?

If so, may want to look at some of the long handled water scoops for ideas. Their holes are made to keep rings and things bigger than a dime in the scoop and let everything smaller out. Probably not good for retaining small gold, but may give you ideas on scoop shapes. If you search the beach and scuba forum for scoops or search for scoops on some of the sponsors pages you might get some ideas.
Good luck to you!
