Arrowheads for David Kieth

Ray Hogan

Here's my recent stuff...the Covington blade from south Texas is 5.25 inches...the Perd is really nice...and the Bird Points are pretty cool. Is the blade on the left a Bird Point knife? Take care, Ray Hogan in Waco, TX.

Ray,

I am by no means an expert, but several of the birdpoints seem to have Caddo characteristics. And, the one to the left, if I were to make a guess.... seems to be a Nodena Point (Willow Leaf). I have many very similar points from the Nodena Phase sites in NE Arkansas. The Nodena were also indigenous to Western Tennessee and North Western Mississippi. An earlier variant of the Nodena was the Banks Point... but the one you have pictured looks to be Nodena.

Seems as if during the middle to. late Nodena phase in NE Arkansas, the points became triangular and are known as Madison Points

I enjoyed seeing these whatever they may be!

Thanks,

Kim

Nice finds! Looks like your "bird points" are Scallorn and one damaged base Morris. This small points were true arrow points, used with the bow. These were weapons against human enemies and hunting projectiles from Javalina to Buffalo. They have no problem taking down the largest of game. Your Covington appears to be made from "Texas Rootbeer" flint, which I believe is a variant of Georgetown or Edwards Plateau.Give me a call sometime and I'll tell you what I know about TX points. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
