I was hunting this small ward ond day. AS I was searching under a BIG pine tree I got this signal.......it said "DIME"...41/2"!!! I thought...Alright! 41/2"...probably SILVER! I carefully pulled out my digging knife after pinpointing and cut about a 4" diameter plug. I try to cut my plug to around the depth of the target, that way...it's either in the bottom of the plug or in the bottom of the hole slightly. Well! When I pulled out the plug....I couldn't believe my eyes!!! There was a PERFECT Indian arrowhead!!! It was laying Flat...centered perfectly in the bottom of the hole?! I had pulled the dirt off of it and left it just laying there clean as a whistle when I pulle dout my plug??? I sat there bewildered and stunned momentarily! I though to myself....a metal detector shouldn't be able to pick up an arrowhead?!?!? I picked up the arrowhead and waved it under my detector.......NOTHIN"!!! Now! I was REALLY confused!? So! I passed the detector back over the hole. The detector sounded off!!! It still said DIME at 4 and a half inches?!?!? I started probeing aroung the edge of the hole......and then I found it! All the way over to the OUTSIDE edge of the hole...standing straight up and down on it's edge....was a 1918 mercury dime!!! Since the dime was standing compleatly on edge, it through off the phase angle and caused it to pinpoint in the wrong place...What's the chance of getting a signal and finding an arrowhead centered perfetly and just layin' there in the bottom of the hole lookin' at ya!!! It's gotta be a one in the million kinda thing! I just know it was so cool! A 2 for 1 Special!!!
Sometimes I have people ask me if you can find arrowheads with a metal detector?
I have to tell them NO.....But!.................................
