Arrow Heads / pottery / fossils

How common is it to find arrow heads while detecting? I think some places have simply been inhabited longer than others. Some places lead themselves to relatively easy habitation. The Indians lived around Natchez long before The Spanish, French, English Settlers came around ...and they all agreed. If you want to get to the other side, Natchez is the place to cross. Do any of you ever find pottery or arrow heads of fossils while detecting?

We see quite a few of each out here in AZ. Just a heads up, It's legal to collect arrowheads and fossils but illegal to collect any other Indian artifacts including pottery shards. A small pottery shard can incur a significant fine.

I've found several arrowheads, scrappers and grain grinding rocks hunting plowed fields here in Missouri. Always a pleasant bonus.

40+ years of detecting has given me a pretty extensive arrowhead/Indian Artifact collection.

In 2015 while digging a very deep signal and scraping out dirt with my fingers (no gloves on), I cut my finger on a (I think) broken spear point. It is very sharp. Just off to the side of it was a large brass buckle.

I have learned through the years that when I work without gloves, I need band aids

LOL , yah Herb I do carry band aids with me. Also alcohol swabs and I had a pair of gloves in my bag, I just don't always use them.

Although I detect all year, I love it when farmers plow and then a rain. Although I find a few, they really show up after the rain. Makes the odds better.

Ive. Had things work in reverse before.....was out arrowhead hunting a great place with a plowed field..
Thought i found an old washer of sorts...gave it a kick.....huh????
An 1875 cc.. (Carson City) seated liberty dime!
Sadly, i never got a chance to go back with my detector and i REALLY wanted to get some swinging in there too...

When Dirt fishing I'm looking at rocks and hoping for an arrowhead find. Just seems like it should be easy when I'm already looking at the ground.I finally had a first artifact find just last fall stream fishing for small mouth bass. Hammer chipping stone holding with my right hand my thumb in the indentation It fits just right in the palm. I found some good information on a website about stone tools identification.
