Armrest creep

MAK

New member
Anyone else having this problem? My armrest creeps down when swinging and by the end of the day it rides in the middle of the mount area, whereas when it is mounted properly (for me) it starts towards the top (back).

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix?

I was have the same thing after swing for 10 min or so it would move ford and it was tighten all the way down so what I did was drill a small hole in front of it and I put a screw in it and now it doesn't move

Good solution Tim. I was thinking of some sort of friction tape on the bottom of the locking ring. If that does not work, I will go with your method.

I can't find the arm cup covers in stock anywhere. Everyone sells them as part of a repair kit now for $25 and up.

Yep mine did that a lot. A little shoe goo held it for a while that even broke loose with the 17" coil after swinging it at the beach for several hours.

Here is what I came up with I put a small screw in front of it. :twodetecting::minelab::cheers:

I like your idea with the screw Tim and I really like the look of those padded arm cuff covers. Where did you get them? I have trouble with the plastic cuffs bruising my arm and I have cut off some heavy socks and slid over the plastic cuffs, but those padded covers are exactly what I need.

That appears to be a cuff cover off a Minelab Sovereign GT or similar detector. If you can't find one they can be made for about $1 using 3 small squares of neoprene material (Available at most fabric stores). Sew the two squares to the end of a rectangle leaving a gap in between and then flip the entire thin inside out.

I got the cover from Richard at BackWoods Detector they are like eight dollar or so. Go on line go to Backwoods Detectors go to the acc. and go to page 4 they are there.

Richard no longer carries the cover alone. It is only available as part of a armrest repair kit that sells for $25.

I had the problem as well but the armrest cam wasn't rotated all the way into the locked position . I used a pair of pliers to get it to click into place and it won't move at all now.

See this post from a couple months ago which I think is the same thing we are talking about here.

Gary - thank you for the reference. Mine is installed correctly and had to use some flat-nosed line pliers to get it to rotate and lock fully. Even with it locked it still slides down on the control box. I will look for some thin friction tape of some sort this weekend to see if it will help.

I went out and tried to move mine, lo and behold it slid a bit, i guess I have a tighter fit on mine though since I really had to force it to move.

Gary - that may be. Mine is not loose by any means. In order for me to move it manually it takes some effort. What it does do on its' own is to slowly creep down the dovetail on the control box mount during the day while I am swinging.
