ARM ACHE WITH SE. :confused::angry::thumbdown:

I am having aching pain on the inside of my elbow with my se. Seems like muscle pain. I never had this when using the explorer 2 , only diference now is i don't use the minelab re- chargeagable nimh battery pack because my se did not come supplied with one. Would the slight difference in extra battery weight of the "re fillable" battery pack cause this fatigue on my arm.
I can't work it out i never had this elbow ache with my old explorer 2.
I have tried adjusting arm cup to different positions but still my arm inside elbow aches. I have tried adjusting bottom shaft to different lengths to counteract this problem but still my inner elbow muscle aches
I love this detector but can only use it for 1 hour at a time then i have to pack it away!. The se is supposed to be better balanced than the explorer 2 but my arm tells me different.

I used to swing the XS (and any of my other detectors) all day, but now I'm good for about 4 hours. I even have the F75 which is very light and well balanced, but it doesn't make any difference. The batteries don't make enough difference to notice.

I have went with the Swingy thing for the Explorer and it does help some. In my case, I have to swing my body as well as the detector when using it, but my arm is okay.

I'm now considering my exercise routine to make sure my health is not slipping up on my ability to swing the detector.

Tendonitus, get one of those bands for the elbow and keep pressure on that spot of it will get worse. The drug store has got them

I hate not been able to get out with the explorer se but the pain is too much at the moment. I have to rest it and see how it goes. Been doing lots of work lately and i think maybe the se is not totally to blame on the bad elbow.

I love my SE. It's my favorite machine but I hunt sometimes all day long, maybe 8-10 hr's and It's weight does get to my wrist mainly, but also my elbow. Here's what I do. When I hunt a spot where I am finding coins 5" and under, I take a break and use my old Big Bud Pro or my ID edge. A lighter detector. Sometimes we can get buy without all that SE power. Taking a break in between the workout with the SE makes all the difference in the world. I can hunt longer and at night my hand is usually just sore from digging. Oh, by the way, everyone should try a set of weight lifting gloves. The "Fishnet" ones with the fingers cut off. They are light and cool. I just use one glove on the hand that I hold my detector and dig with. It helps save the hand big time! I got mine at Academy here in Texas. About $5 for the fishnet ones. Try it, you'll never hunt without one again. Find another fellow MD'er that uses the opposite hand than you and split the cost on a set. Half price and you both get one......Good luck...Dickie

A few things that might help: First you Absolutely have to use both arms and alternate. I used to work with physical therapist and they would lecture me on making sure I carried by sales bags on alternating shoulders to prevent problems. Second: The closer you keep your hand and your forarm to your belly or midline the stronger you are and the less effort you will expend. In Aikido they call this area your midpoint or your center. In fact you can actually do swings with reduced arm movement while twisting slightly at your hips. Third if your swing support is set up right you can actually swing the detector with an open hand. I am not saying to do this since you do not have as much coil control but I am saying that if you can swing it with an open hand then it is set right and you can use more body and less arm. The big thing is making sure to switch arms before you get tired and make sure your swing support has enough tension on it.

Best Regards!

PS I did come up with an alternative way to swing a detector that does work and I have never seen anyone else doing it. It takes some detail to describe but if the things above do not work then let me know and I will post it.
