Arizona hunting partner- X-terra 70

Bunk

New member
I have had my X-70 for 2 years now but never learned to use it real well for coins. I did make one killer find but it was along the lines of a blind dog finding a bone, just pure luck. That was a real nice gold watch. I am now living next to an old ghost town that had 3-4 thosand people at the turn of the last century. It is real trashy but I am sure it has some good stuff and has never been detected. A few of the local old timers have showed me where the bars and stores stood, nothing but concrete foundations now.
I did find a 1918 wheat penny yesterday and six modern coins.
I would like to find someone that swings a X-70 to detect this place with me I live near kearny, az. Anyone interested give me a call. I work shift work at the mine here but if you leave me a message I will get back to you. Thanks,
Bunk 928-830-5350

Bunk, that's an amazing find you dug! Fabulous!
Would be happy to join you but I'm in Australia. All the best with your detecting in Arizona. It's a beautiful place with a LOT of history.

Those diamonds look to be real. Any idea of the age of the watch?

Cheers,

Marco

Marco, The movement was made in 1890 but no telling when the case was made and yes the dimonds are real. It cost me a couple hundred to get it fixed but now it keeps time.

Aw GEEZE! That's got to be a VERY valuable item. The design on the front is very flamboyant and would be attractive to collectors of antiques. With an original movement, that could be a very valuable watch should you decide to part with it. Be sure to use a major-name auction house if you do. Are the diamonds cut the old style? (with larger and fewer facets than typical diamonds today). The type of diamond cut used should be a clue to the age of the case. It's possible that if the diamonds have the larger facets, then they are likely to indicate that the case is original or at least that it is vintage at the very best.

I see that the tint of the case is rose, yellow and green (do is see a violet shade?). If the other metals used to make the case are also gold (I'm just wondering), then it's likely to be English or at least Northern European in origin. They were and still are, fond of making green and violet Gold (which is produced by adding other metals to the smelter like cobalt and alluminium. The color of purple and green Gold is more a white gold with a green or purple highlight. Copper added rather than silver, zinc and nickel gives you Rose Gold. Since gold sticks nicely to other types of gold... well you might have something very unique there. 19th Century Bling!

They've just started selling Black Gold in a store here in Sydney. Looks like Hematite but much heavier.

/You've just inspired me to try harder next time I visit my local Gold Fields. Never occurred to me that such beautiful watches could be out there since they were normally passed on to family and considered extremely important.

Cheers,

Marco

Well done.

My WAG is that it is Swiss. The steer and the kissing birds just looks Swiss to me.

A very very nice find.

Hey Bunk,
You mentioned that you are not so good at coinhunting with the x70. Might I suggest reading diggers Coinshooting write up in the FAQ section. Good read with good advice.

Beautiful Find !!! Read the FAQFAQ and then get out there. Experience is the best teacher. If you do find someone who has experience in coin shooting to go with, it would be a big help. I printed the FAQFAQ section and would take it with me for reference. It helped when I got off track.

Good hunting, John K

Man that is a heck of a find! Just fantastic!

As to coin hunting I agree with reading the FaqFaq section. Heck it helped me much more than the DVD or the manual.

Good luck on finding someone to hunt with. I also hunt alone. Sometimes I would like someone, but most often I do not, Beale.
