Are you using headphones with your Fisher?

Attraction.!....I like keeping the chatter to myself ......I want to hear it all..............that and my hearing is somewhat dim .....:)

I always use them,prolongs battery life also......hh.......Dan

You will miss faint deep targets that just barely give a variance in sound .. Thats in ALL metal..With the silent search Discrimination it will either beep or not beep...It does give you longer battery life..Blocks out the noise, and gives you an excuse to ignore the tons of kids that gather around you in the parks LOL

Yes, definitely! I have some "made for metal detector" headphones, but, prefer the small, lightweight phones like the $4.99 Koss that Wally World sells. These let you hear everything without blocking out sounds around you, because they just have small foam pads over the speakers. The full cup phones are preferred by those that don't want to hear anything external from the machine. To each his own on that. (some of the "stereo" headphones will need an adapter to fit the 1/4" phone jack on the machine.....some of the Koss models come with an adapter) One thing I don't care for on the lightweight Koss sets is the small gauge wire, but, it seems to be holding up well.

This of course has a LOT to do with the machine and mode you are using
So what machine and mode are you using????

I'm using an F75 in bp mode, All Metal, Motion. Can't decide on which tones I prefer yet when I'm in Disc.

Except when I'm detecting with kids, I always use phones. With modulated audio, you will definitely miss faint deep signals without them.

If I'm by myself in an area where I especially want to have awareness, I use Stingers. Or should I say Stinger?

Most certainly. Even on a non windy day, there is a good chance of missing those faint signals and tics. HH jim tn

I like the 2f when I use Discrimination but I am new to this detector....I notch for nickles also...The only time I use all motion is when I'm in a less trashy area.....Can't stand that zip sound in trashy areas....I found a school that was shut down last year and I have been doing fairly well there.....I went for the last 2 days for 2 hours each day and have found lots of coins and 3 junk rings 1 small silver ring and 1 silver charm.....I've barely touched the place..... Can't keep it off my mind.....Planning a full day with lots of hope.....Sorry got off subject alittle....

Keep us posted on how the school hunt goes (you can stay on topic by relating your finds to the tones you heard in the headphones ).

Actually, the ones I have are headphones (the two speakers connected by a strap that goes over your head and held on by the spring tension of the strap). If I am not mistaken, the ear buds are seperate speakers that fit into your ear canals...right? I have since gone to the Koss Everywear SoloStereophone (http://www.koss.com/koss/kossweb.nsf/p?openform&pc^fs^Solo) and it has the full ear cups, but, does not block external noise entirely. I find that they stay in place better than the $4.99 model and do, indeed, allow my hearing of weaker signals without turning up the volume and getting blasted by the strong signals. In any case, it is whatever YOU like that is best.
