You lose the ability to custom edit your discrimination patterns, save your discrimination patterns, and you are missing the recover features.... "deep" and "fast". Also no auto noise cancel.... so if you hunt in trashy areas or in situations where you need to "fine tune" your discrimination... or set up for hunting real deep stuff.... you would want the XS model. Mike covered the most important ones, I would just add that you also don't get the nimh battery & both chargers $$$. Also you don't get a backlight display, it is a must if you do any night hunting and wish to visually analyze a target. at least I think its always in normal audio with the S model?
