They are not sealed under any pressure from factory. What has happen is that you have really overcharged the batteries causing the release of hydrogen gas. The batteries are vented to prevent them from exploding from heat and over-charging.

I have had that happen to me twice. I regularly check the pod connected to the onlybatterypack charger and verify how hot it is getting. Out of 4 pods I have 1 that gets hot frequently. I have now started to remove the battery from the charger and charge that one open. It cracked my battery pod last time. I also bought some two inch shrink wrap and after charging melt the shrink wrap around the pod where the cap meets the tube.
