Are the stock programs good enough?

I have been considering a V3i, but have been a little intimidated. I have a MXT now and enjoy the simplicity. Do you really have to start digging right in? Are the stock programs good enough with depth or am I wasting my money? Thanks

It all depends on you. Many people never get past the stock programs and have success. They are hot compared to the DFX stock programs. The MXT is a great and simple machine. The V3i can be used simplily or complex it is up to you. I would make the effort to try one and not depend on peoples advice. Of course owners of the VX3 or V3i will tell you to get one, after all they did.

The simple answer is yes, the V3i is great right out of the box but there is a lot more to the move from a MXT to the V3i.

Most of us moving to the V3i welcome the adjustability and like the learning process and tweaking the V to our personal needs, wants and ground conditions. There is a lot to learn but very little of it needs to be learned and understood right off of the bat. The quick start Field Guide http://media.whiteselectronics.com/manuals/V3%20Manuals/v3-field-guide.pdf has just about all of the information you need to have tons of fun with the V and the advanced stuff you can learn as needed. Many of us use the factory Hi Pro program tweaked for our personal needs and are very happy with it. Once set up to your liking, the V3i becomes pretty much a turn on and go hunting detector. I haven't made an adjustment in over a year with mine.

If you like the simplicity of the MXT which is a VERY good detector, you may find the move to the V3i intimidating. The Internet is full of people who bought a V3i and complained it has too many adjustments for them............. duh......... what did they expect? The V3i is the most advanced programmable detector on the market, easy to use but it will take quite a while to master. Some of us will never learn everything you can do with it including myself but I have it set up to do the kind of hunting that I want it to do and that's good enough for me.

No....stock programs are not "good enough". But.......they are perfect to learn and start your "own learning" because they are designed to be as easy as possible for what their intent is, and.....produce well right out of the gate.My main job is not "selling" detectors as my skill set is more appropriately used in other areas of where I work. (It kills me to not be more involved because detecting is such a big thing for me personally and hope my job can grow into that also...I'm good with teaching people.)

I do purchasing and sales in other products, but by default I'm there to assist w/detectors. Getting people comfortable with the leaning path "ahead" is actually easy for me and I bat high on this one. Don't concern yourself with what you "don't know" but enjoy learning more in little steps. (Enjoy each step and don't move on much to more for awhile.....elements of the factory programs are still working for you and eventually you'll be amazed at how close they are to how you end up adjusting your setting for most of your hunting.)
Once you have something "under your belt", work that to the point where you've become somewhat comfortable, and pick at something else to begin learning.....the factory programs are still covering your tail.
Respect yourself for each little strength you pick up as you go and build on that. It turns "nice" with each of us at our own rate of learning.

Aside from detecting, the V3i has the most easy and wonderful software on the market. It's beautiful, adjusts to our eyesight and hearing capabilities, comfortable to move through and pop around in, makes sense in the way it's layed out.....make time to just "sit and play on the couch". Unhook the coil from it, don't worry a nit about understanding it all at once, pay attention to how things are labelled....eat some chip, pet the dog, come back to it when you feel like it. This little exercise will do wonders for you when your ready to step into learning each aspect of this truly fine piece of kit and enjoy each smile as you learn each little "cool" thing. The factory progams are STILL going a long way in covering for you and are fundimentally close to the way we all end up adjusting them.
