Are the ones who just lurk the SMART ones?

Are the hunters who just lurk on forums the SMART ones...I am starting to think so...Do you relaize that if you take photos of your finds in the field with most smart phones, that the photo gets tagged with the exact GPS coordinates where you took your picture? Someone with the right software can copy your photo (tags included), and extract the exact spot you were hunting...I think there are more folks out there than we realize who lurk the forums to find new spots to hunt. Is this a reasonable assumption?

HH,

I believe there may be a few out there doing that . I've read warnings about not posting pictures of your children taken with smart phones for that reason . There's always some Bass turd who finds a way to turn something new into a tool for their evil activities .

Seriously,The really good detectorists have no need to lurk.
They have the experience to find the deep stuff others cannot!
This is through years of digging and learning.
The ones that lurk,Only to try to find a spot to hunt, only tell me that they are not great at what they are doing!

Correct me if i am wrong!

lurkers RULE! I've Read this forum daily for months on end, absorbed information, and become extensivly good using the search function. Welp now I've posted so I am no longer a "lurker" :O

I had never heard of this, but have wanted to talked some in field pics of digging a few coins in the field where I have been pulling seateds and other old coins out. Got to remember to bring my little hand held. Last time out, I almost used my phone.

I agree with LabradorBob in that I think those who must lurk and use others research and locations are:

1) Lazy
2) Unskilled
3) Uneducated
4) Unlucky
5) Undone

I am not the greatest at researching sites. I am not the best educated (I do have my High School Diploma and 25 credit hours). I do like to hear and read about history (I should do more than I do though). If I am in someones known neighborhood, I usually do the COURTESY of letting them know I am coming, or have been there (I would expect the same of my friends as well).

HH,

I remember reading a post by Bryce(IL) in the Explorer forum that he stopped taking pictures of his location(s) as there was some "thug / thugs" figuring out the location and trespassing on private property to metal detect. I don't know if they were figuring it out through smart phone gps technology or they just figured it out through identifying the area by looking at the pic. I don't blame him and that is why I no longer take pictures of my field hunts. I may take close up shots with my digital camera but not the landscape / surrounding area. Elton- you are funny lol I don't even own any type of cell phone. People at work tell me I am a dinosaur lol I agree with you Diggerodirt and LabradorBob. The sad truth is that there are those "types" out there doing just that.

I'm a lurker...i'm stupid
Thats step One (lol)

I don't post much...i haven't found much yet. Just got started last year.
I lurk researching sounds, coils (ultimate 13 will be delivered today)

I like reading the finds and dreaming....

WOW...i never thought a picture could do that. lol

Wait until you drive home and stop at a Dunkin Donuts, find a grassy spot, put your nice find ( silver coin, ring, etc.) in the grass, make sure the GPS location is on, and take a picture and post it.

Will blow all those lurkers minds at how many great finds are being made at Dunkin Donuts all around the globe !!!!

WELP? I thought only female dogs do that?.....nge

I can tell you this. A few years ago after I posted some pics and said a few things about one of my spots that some of the guys in my area figured out where I was and hunted it for a week. I know because I ran into them and the big talker told me all about my post, I never told them that it was my post they had been following. After that experience I have become even more elusive about what and where I dig my good stuff. Forget the phone...use a regular camera.
