Are relics hunters allowed ? Hunt zero discrimination!

Hello,

I bought my wife a GTI-1500 in mid February with the hopes of getting her coin shooting ( the Garrett site and everything that I could find boasted that it was for coins). I tried it out one night as it had a backlight and an ID meter and the old faithful (are we allowed to use other detector names) had nothing. I really liked it. I figured out in about two hours where common relics fall on the meter. I could go on and on about the way the thing
reads and analyzes metal. I bought a 12 1/2 coil on March 09. The following morning I walked about 40 yards into the woods, locked on one click below zinc penny ( this means lead on relic meter)with depth reading maxed out at 12" on the scale (imaging "D") and about 17" later out came the facedown box plate. I am going to write to Garrett about finding a box plate - first target- new coil- priceless! I read another site today that did not give Garrett any relic credit.
**The clip corner plate and other items were dug last Saturday. Can anybody identify the clipped corner plate. These are all homesite relics. I also got an 1869 awesome 2 cent piece. I will post if anyone wants to see.
My hunting partner has had his clocked cleaned for about five weekends and is also rethinking the "Garrett's can't relic hunt"
position around the southeast.
Take care all - Hunt Zero Disc !!

They are all "metal detectors". I believe the notch feature is really good for coin shooting. But set to all metal or low disc the Garretts should be able to keep up with about any detector. Great finds by the way!!!!!

Wow Nice stuff ! I have used Garretts for relic hunting alot. The only thing I found that was hard to pick up was very small buttons everything else rings in loud and clear. I love civilwar relics but I need to take a 70mile drive to hunt any and people just don't let you hunt like they use to in the Gettysburg area.Keep posting those finds!!

Garrett Detectors:garrett:
So easy a caveman could do it!

Great finds. We know Garretts can find stuff other than coins. We'd love to see anything you want to post.

Hello Bill,

I have been viewing forum for about a month. Everyone seems like a good bunch and I enjoyed seeing the support. Garrett forum seems to be quite unique on that note. I have also noticed that you do not see the constant complaints on the detectors that you see on other sites.
At this point I have been blessed with the new detector and I think that I may paint my hobby room Garrett green.

The items came from about 40 miles to no mans land from the nearest battlefield here in Virginia. I share your pain and I do not even attempt to try for permission around the battle sites anymore. You cannot even step onto all the land being cleared for the 500K+ houses around without being violently run off. I get permission on huge acreage, follow creeks and look for homesites.

Hunt Zero - listen for the iron and pull the goodies out the middle!

Nice goodies.. I like that buckle..Wish I could find
one of those.. But not much civil war activity around
these parts..
I bought my ace 250 just as much for relic hunting as
anything. I prefer finding old personal stuff vs coin
shooting. I like war areas, home sites, privies, etc..
Coins are ok too, but that's not really why I bought a
machine..

I know it looks like a slug. It's lead and it's pretty smooth. All the projectiles I see have rings in them. So is this old or not?
Thanks, Kenny

G'day Blockade runner.
Sounds like you are having a great time. BTW. welcome to the forum. You're right about the overall contentment about this forum. One thing that I might add though, when my wife went to school, her uniform and the entire inside of her classroom was painted that colour (that's color for you yanks:lol:) and if I painted our bedroom that colour, then I'd be divorced in a heartbeat!!:goodnight::stars:

If it's true then the Ace 250 is a dag nabbit dadgum right fine relic hunter. I found this bullet on my property. It's the only one I have ever found. But from a great tip from Blockade Runner I was able to find a picture. It looks like a 54 caliber Sharps projectile! Civil war stuff here. I'm only 7 miles from Lone Jack, Missouri where there was quite a battle. Also I'm only about 2 miles from an old College that was used as a CW base during that time. The college was burnt to the ground and I know where it was. I just have to try and get permission to hunt it. The bullet looks like the one at the top in the picture. I've been coin shooting since 1984 and this is the first real relic find. It was at least 7 inches deep. I dug it only 5 days ago.

NOPE - had to think about it. The shape doesn't seem quite right for a Sharps. I think that you have a Starr carbine. Go to http://www.iglou.com/btreasure/ Do not look at just one, try a couple of different Starrs bullets before you draw a decision.

Use www.mapquest.com and type in the fields and all the info will show up. Or use Google earth for a picture. I don't know where new madrid county is. Thanks.

Yeah welcome aboard. I think you'll like it here. Great bunch of guys and no squabbling and everyone is willing to help folks with questions and problems.
