Are my numbers not so good after all?

Odd once again with the coin counter comes the questions....I received a question about my numbers on another forum....what i decided to do was work out an average per hunt....

I have been out a total of 63 times to find the 3829 coins....

That works out to 60.77 (if my calculator is correct:rofl:) so despite all the 100 coin days and a 200 coin day this year, I am averaging between 60-61 coins a trip! All of a sudden that does not sound like to big a deal. Those cold days in January and March with low coin totals really hurt my average, also my forest preserve hunts have very low coin totals. I am finding obviously and digging a lot of pennies...over 2000 up to now this year!

This hobby is not about numbers. It's about having fun and hoping that next hole might have that once in a lifetime find in it. If you're out to get rich in this hobby, you will starve to death. If you want numbers become an accountant. If you want to have fun, meet good people, and get exercise, then metal detect. So much for my 2 cents worth. Have fun Greg. Don't worry about what others say. If you are satisfied, then that's all that matters. HH

All hunts are good.
Yes your numbers are very good,
I know you will hit the 6000 mark.
Go on and enjoy yourself.......................................
I wash I had more time to hunt.

Gregg,

I only had two days over 60 times this year. But I'm sure having fun :detecting:

I can see that you are putting the time in so those numbers are believable to me. It sure looks like you are having fun to me.:wiggle:

Keep up the great work (fun) !!

I agree with all the points made. When I am out detecting, even though I am in plain view to everyone who drive by, it's as if I am in my own little world. I think of nothing but detecting, and what that target could be. No worries about what is going on at work, how I am going to fill up the gas tank, how much tax I am going to have to pay, or any of that nonsense. It's as close to being a kid again as I will ever get!

I dig all the zinc cents, and a good share of chewed up cans and other junk. As one person said on one of the boards a few years back, "A coin is just something to dig while I am out looking for that gold ring." Words to that effect, if not the actual quote.

Half the fun for me is getting home and entering the latest hunt to a spreadsheet I made up. I find that I am averaging $1.07 per hour this year. 40 coins in my typical 2 hour hunt is about par for me.

I remember seeing that you were considering taking down your running tally. Don't do it!

There is always going to be somebody to rain on your parade. If they don't believe you,. that is their problem. After all, you know what you post is true, and that's all that matters. Please consider keeping it up, as there are some of us here following you that use your totals and factor your location in an urban area to gage our own progress. You likely have more people living in your city than are in the closest 10 counties to where I live.

Seems a very good average to me. With two thirds beach detecting , one third land I can average 10,000 per year detecting five days a week which is only 40 a trip.
I hit 1800 rings last month. Sounds great but that's thirty years detecting with around twenty full time.
Your doing great so I wouldn't worry.

Probably with over 2 million people everything is over populated! Some of the parks even in the morning a parking spot can be hard to find!

Thanks I actually found a few ahead of me, like to talk to them. Some are hunting everyday. I am taking 4-5 days off from hunting right now. No race just want to make sure i hit my goals and hopefully way above! After July I will reset my goals from 5500...Not sure to which number yet but I have a ton of time off in September and October.:detecting:
