just wanted a little input i always shoot with the x-8 sunray stealth coil due to a neck injury.i see you guys getting some great deep finds and was just wondering if the stock coil is the coil of choice . i find the stock coil too heavy and to unbalanced to use for any great length of time. iwas hit head on by a drunk driver while living in jax florida 10 years ago and thank god she was only driving about 35 mph when she hit me. thanks for your input guys appreciate it Robert in sheboygan wisc

About two years ago I was interested in buying an XS.I met Jim Vokes, one of the regular posters here, who let me try his detector one afternoon.I felt the total weight with the stock coil was too heavy for me and I had trouble pinpointing,so I postponed purchase.A few months later,I contacted a dealer, got a demo on the detector with the Stealth 8" coil and found it was easier for me to handle and fine on pinpointing.I know there is better depth with the stock coil, but it wasn't for me.Since that time, however,I'm using the detector with hipmount kit and think I'll switch to the 10" stock coil, just for fun.I've made some very nice finds with the Stealth, but who knows what I might find with the 10" one. That unknown quality is what makes detecting fun.

I use what the detector was made to use.
BUT, if you have to use the 8" I can't blame you a bit. This is where the X-12 might be the right coil for you! It is lighter than the stock coil and much better balanced.
Anyway, back to the X-8. You probably do, but make sure you run at least 7 gain, 10 would be better. Our buddy Upstate Jim uses the 8" and the joey more than anything else, and he digs some super deep goodies with them. I don't use my 8 or 5 at all. I get this paranoid delusion that I will miss the deeper stuff with out the stock coil. Which I will, if for no other reason than because I think I will. I can snipe coins in some heavy trash with the stock coil. That is the coil for me!

Like Ric said I use the X8 the most, followed by the Joey 5x10.. not so much because of weight although it that comes into play, I just am in the woods most times and its tough swinging big coils in the brush, as well as the fact the big coil does not hit everything ion high iron sites.. I do use the 10 at least a few times at each site to pick off some deeper stuff in the cleaner clearer areas.. If anyones sticking just to the 10 inch in extreme iron they are leaving stuff behind and thats a fact. And the little X5 will pick off even more the others left.. maybe not alot but I always seem to pick off something with it.. My sites are limited so I have to do everything to squeeze out the finds.. I supppose if you have lots of big parks to keep going to then you can afford to just move on... only a few small parks here, and the bigger ones in nearby areas are just too crowded and full of gangsters for me to enjoy myself, I like the quiet of the woods

Here in San Diego, 8" coil for parks, schools and the wet sand beachs.Wot for the dry sand and some wet sand hunting.it not as stable in the wet sand as the 8".The 10" is just too heavy for extended hunting as is the WOT.LOVE my 8" HH Jerry
