Are any of you thinking about going to New Mexico and do you know why I asked?????

Yep...since that news article broke...havn't read the poem/clues yet...you?
One would hope this is legit, and not just some crazy old SOB up to his last prank in Life!
Mud...

I think the clue was that it was higher than 5000 feet above sea level, which is most of the state.

I hope this concept catches on...it could be done by any and all of us on a local scale...scatter silver all over town and have the local news cover it...It would get people out of the house for sure!

All the best.....if anyone can decipher that poem and find it....it is you! :please:

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it's no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There'll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.

If you've been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know,
I've done it tired and now I'm weak.

So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.

You really should try this with your liking for spicy Texas food.....now that you are retired. Costs little, is healthy and the Garrett gals just love to snack on it.

Ground moose meat??? I don't think my local Texas butcher carries that!!! You mentioned it needed more heat, try using some coarse ground black pepper mixed in with that bourbon stuff...might work!!

First off, you should think not about finding the treasure, but instead tracking an old man! You would have to find out WHEN he says he hid it. The general time frame of the seasons would be important and the weather history, snow coverage at elevation, temps, etc.of that day or month...Then if you had a way to access his cellphone log, and follow those signals wherever his phone was, and using the clue above 5000' sea level, you would certainly narrow it down..if that was possible, you'd find it in a day...after that its a matter of thinking like an old man, no matter how spry he might have been when he hid it, bucking 40lbs of anything far away from a vehicle is not realistic. Though Im sure the spot means something to him, and he's been there before, or has some familiarity with the location, probably has a wonderful view of a sunset or sunrise, or a grand vista dropping away...if he did not have a cellphone, you would still have to think like an old man and know what his pattern was on the day or month he said he hid it..I'm sure he had no help and did this all on his own...say...where has William NM been lately?

Tigger put his thinking cap on and we figured it out in a few minutes. We lived up in Taos for about 7 years before moving down south. During one of our cross country skiing excursions (he's an excellent skier), we spied an old fellow concealing a large vault, so we're just waiting out of fairness. We took a peek inside, and here are a few little samples:

OK, I lied-- these are from my last ghost town outing, earlier this week. I was pleasantly surprised to snarf some more gold - this one definitely looks like a spill or fire melt, and acid tests at 10K, so some copper or silver mixed in. I was also happy to dig my first "V" Nickel, an 1890, and the shield-shaped item that I dug next to the outhouse by the old jail. I was hoping for a badge, but it has no text or markings on it, and appears to have been nailed onto something (probably) wooden. ??? It does look as though it was silver plated.

I've got a ton of stuff to post, maybe I'll get to it tonight or tomorrow...
