The top 2 rows; are .54 to .57 cal. (Tie Tails?)
The third row; are all .44 cal.
The fourth row; are all 2 rings, from left to right, 2 .57cal., 3 .53cal, another .56 or .57 cal, and the smallest one on the far right a .50 cal.
The fifth row; are 1 ring, with 3 .53cal. and the small one a .45cal. Some of you viewers have already helped me in the past, for which I am deeply grateful..Kidcentavo

Ted,
The two gardners, row 4,Items 1 and 2, are definitely confederate.
Row 1 and 2 tietails, Confederate Cavalry camps in Virginia early to mid-war usually yield tie tails. They vary in calibre as the raised rings are smaller to large cal. as you approach the base of the bullet(the tie end). This allowed the shooters to use one type of bullet to fit several sharps breech loaders of differing calibres.
The third row, two ring 44 cal. might be for a .44 cal Adams revolver.
The fifth row, item 1 and 2, look like 54 cal sharps short style.
Due to the variety, it looks like CS Cavalry to me. Yankee finds are usually more uniform in type.
These are my best observations comparing your picture to bullet books I have and bullets I have found.
Hunt slow and careful, are you getting any brass up? Don't over discriminate as some iron objects are quite nice. Gun tools, rifle parts etc. You're doing great.

It does appear that your bullets lean towards CS Cavalry as 5forks suggests. However, some are difficult to get a good look at in your pics and may be rather uncommon varieties. I would suggest getting a copy of Mason/McKee's Civil War Projectiles book (the bullet book as we call it). It is one of the best books to get an idea of many of the bullets used during the war. Measuring the diameter of bullets can help ID, but many times a bullet will be "out of round" due to having been stepped on etc. The bullet gauge will quickly determine if they are out of round. Very nice finds kid. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

Thanks for the book tip DAVE, scan the internet and see where it is available..kidcentavo
