ARA not dealing with public? Tax I.D. # required ?

Just went to the ARA site sys that they don't do business to the public and u must have a tax I.D. #? Any truth to this?

Dont get excited.... give them a call and tell them you metal detect and want to sell some finds. That discourages those fly by night gold sellers from using them without a tax number and ripping off people. Also has something to do with home land security i believe. Ive never had a problem selling to them and i just send them a hand written note with my stuff.

ARA is the only place you will get a fair price. There is a limit as far as a 1099 form goes. Dew's advice is good. Call them or check out their website. HH :minelab:

Here is the scoop, from the president to me. The site has to claim that, becasue of the patriot act. Just send in your gold and or silver with a letter saying your a detectorist and your name and address and phone. I send mine priority with signature required. Put in the letter how many pennywieghts you have (they don't go by grams) IF there is a discrepancy they will call you before melt. IF you have no stones in your gold you can ask for same day processing.

Do not call either, you will get the same response from the folks that answer the phone, Usually Amy, Alison, or Shawn. Just sent it in and it will be processed and you will get a check.

I am new to selling gold and silver and have been selling to one of my customer which is a pawn shop....Is it better to go to ARA???? and if so, how do I get in touch with them....Is there a minimum and a max that they will take???

I don't mind doing business with the people that do business with me, but I have found some price differences between pawn shops.....I am like most people times are lets say different...

Thanks for the help,

eek

So lets say you find a 10 gram 14K ring. You go to this site:

http://www.dendritics.com/scales/metal-calc.asp?WeightU=10&Units=g&Metal=Au&PurityC=.583&Purity=0.583&PrOzt=&Markup=-2

put in 10 click grams click 14K gold

put in -2% (what ARA takes out and you will find that at todays prices you will get 317.93 cents for your ring.

Take that number and the ring to your pawn shop and you will know how much your being ripped off. I also work in a pawn shop! I know what they pay.

Hope this helps

You may be right scuba.... but that would scare the heck out of me if i just talked to someone who said no.... and then sent them $4000 worth of gold. Ill just say ive not had a problem with them and ive sent in 4 batches since last Oct. I normally call them first to see if any rules have changed and that i still have an account. Carlos confired it for me last month. Then i called again the day it was to be delivered to ensure it got there and locked in the price since it was $1783 that day. I highly doubt any local can beat their price at 98 percent.... but it does cost to send it.

I do mine the same way as scuba and have never had any prob. with ara there the best bet out there to sell your gold and silver too

yeh they are good to deal with..i sent some Gold,Platinum and Silver rings last month and got 3 seperate checks and a offer to buy the Diamonds whitch they sent back with one of the checks. been dealing with them 6 years now with no problem.takes me about 12 days to get check back.

The tax identification, your social security number is required when they pay out, as by I:R:S standards if they pay you more than $600 per year
they are required to issue a 1099misc so IRS knows you have income to file on. Never had the opportunity to sell gold, so not sure if
they are doing this.
