Aquanaut headphone replacement

profind1

New member
Hello ...maybe someone can help me!...Tore my headphone wire on Fisher 1280x...aquanaut....Can I replace this my self.....I can't figure out how to open it up.........seems like I have to go from the faceplate.......& wary about trying to unscrew plastic bolt on bottom........and lastly....anyone want to sell a set of ears for this unit...........Please don't say it has to go back to the factory.....lolol....Thanks Stan Wake Forest NC

Yes, I believe you can. I've opened mine up because my earphones are
not working also. my unit is out of warranty so I didn't worry about it. There is four little screws holding the unit together inside the battery compartment. Remove the two padded tape and it will reveal the
four screws. Then loosen the two black plastic nuts, which hold the
earphones and coil to the back of control box. After everything is
loose take a butter knife and lightly pry along the seem by the top
side of the unit. Be careful, there is on o-ring which is compressed
along that seem. The whole top will slide like a cassete. you also
will need to feed the earphone and coil wire upward as your removing
the cassete. This is so you don't yank loose wire from the cicuit
board. you will then see where the earphone is connected to on the
board. that is where you will need to solder the new earphones to.
The rest is self explainatory however, after putting it back togeter
you need to make sure that the compression fits are good after tightening up the two black nuts (earphone&coil)so it don't leak.
If you can achieve this, mission accomplished!
hope this helps!

You are a star and a genius,,,,I didn't think the plastic nuts would come off.........as far as the rest is concerned it shouldn't be a problem.........if I do run into something may I email you......my e-mail is eprofind1@aol.com..........Thank you thank you.......I e-mailed a few dealers....they said I'd have to send it to fisher.....an afterthought are any other earphones compatible with the 1280x....................

Thanks for your kind words profind1! I just recently took mine apart just to see if I could. It wasn't that bad as long as your careful and take it slowly. grey ghost has a good quality pair of underwater headphones for about $130.00. They claim that it's compatible to most
UW units. I will say that, I believe it would be smarter to send it
in to Fisher lab for this type of service though but; this depends on your situation. This would cost roughly $130.00(earphones),$55.00(h-labor),and shiping$. I personally think you can do it your self. It
would be a big + if your good with a soldering gun.
GOOD LUCK!
