Anyone's thoughts on the Omega 8000....

Jay Evans

New member
I have been considering adding a TID machine to my collection and was wondering what everyone thought about the Omega 8000 if they've tried it.... I know they have to be light but I've never tried one. I've heard good about them but I'm basically a Tesoro guy and this would be a different step than I normally would do.
Thanks in advance...

i'm a newbie so my opinion doesn't really count but....they weigh 2lb 14 oz (with battery), affordable ($600), and has a 5 year warrantee instead or a 2 year warrantee (not as good as tesoro's but better than the other big names), it will be the next one i get. monte uses one and that's good enough for me.

Looks like a great detector, but I'm done trying to use VLF detectors around this area. Multiple frequency detectors is the only detectors that perform the way I want in my mineralized ground, so I'll stick with either CZ's or an E-trac in the future.

Go with the F5 Fisher. Light and thumb control with knobs. Same depth, features and weight as 8000 and $100 less. Never have liked touch pads. With gloves can be a pain. IMHO

Jay I as well was a tesoro guy for years and about a month ago i bought the Omega 8000 and havent looked back at all.It is a fine metal detector very light weight and ground balances in a few seconds with the ground grab feature. It has been a pleasure to use the past three weeks i bought the coil package that comes with the std eliptical 10 inch then it also has the 5 inch dd and the 11 inch dd coil with it and i have been practicing with each of them. What ican tell you so far is its a dime magnet, for i seem to find just about as many dimes as i do pennies it seems maybe not as many but over half as many thats for sure. You can use any of the four tones and the id numbers are nice to hacve a nickle hits at 56 and 57 and i have have found more nickles in three weeks with this Omega the more i seem to learn about it the more nickles i seem to find but that high tone on copper and dines and quarters is sure nice.I kept waiting for Tesoro and garrett to bring out something new but that has not happened and im not knocking tesoro at all i have used a royal sabre for many years i still have it and it still looks new but since i have the Omega i have not used the Royal sabre once. The notching on the Omega seems to work fine and you can run high sensitivity if you want and it still runs quiet until you hit a coin.My impression so far with the Omega is that First texas has a winner here its so easy to use and to make any adjustments to.I can go on and on about it and i studied and read for a month about this detector before i purchased it.Its a great buy for the money no its a best buy for the money. If you want any other information about my time with the Telnetics Omega 8000 send me a message...Markmac

Markmac, Royal Sabre is an antique not to be compared with Tejon or Vaquero.
Jay Evans, if change for digital is what you need, I would rather wait for G2.

Hi Denar I was not compairing the royal to a tejon or a vaq just was stating that i have not seen anything new from tesoro or garrett in the past five or six years, everything new seems to be coming from first texas and you wont find anything bad wrote about the Omega and i can tell you from my time in the field with it im very pleased. For the money spent i personally dont think there is a better detector on the market right now.For coin hunting its a great machine and thats what i use itfor its simple to understand very easy userface ,ground balance is a snap, has four tones to choose from plus number ID.Will i buy another tesoro some day im sure i will but for me the Omega is what i take to the parks for now since i dont relic hunt here in Illinois and coin shoot only.Best of luck to everyone and i hope your finds bring a smile to your faces this summer..Markmac

Markmac the best detector on the market is samwhat oldish Tesoro Tejon. It is true that the only new detectors on the market come from FT, but there are many problems with them eg. susceptibility to EMI, not to strong construction and other faults, but we all have to admit at the moment it is their time. Tesoro, Garrett are unfortunatelly asleep.

right!..they do appear to be "dozing!"..maybe,because of the "tight" times we are in,they don't have the dough
to develop "new" designs!

Perfection is difficult to improve upon...."change" is not always the answer to something better...how well the world knows that is true!:detecting:

Hi Denar thanks for your reply i have also heard people talk about emi problems but i have not had one problem with that with my Omega and i try to find faults with it but so far the only fault is in me lol trying to learn what this new detector is tellling me.I like the light weight, the ease of setting it and ground balancing and the ease of making any changes with a touchpad or knob.It runds on one single 9 volt battery that gets well over 20 hours use,im on my second battery and i changed the other one before i needed to i still had two bars showing. It accepts both size headphone plug ins which is nice.Build quality i had heard people say things about first texas products but mine seems to be fine no flex in the stem it has two what do you cal;l them cam locks that tighten to keep rod from flexing. My only complaint is no cover for the housing but im having one made to help protect the front housing from dirt and scratches since im over careful on the care of my detectors.yes i still like tesoro and Rusty in the service dept is a legend.I can only say so far im very pleased with the Omega 8000, So far no issues just a fun detector you can swing and use as long as you want...Have a great day everyone its raining In Illinois AGAIN lol...Markmac
