I see they have a face book page and some how are tied to weather channel. Prospectors: Breaking the Dry Spell (Pilot)
A reality show in which miners dig for precious metals and gems begins with a prospector finding a thief on her claim, while a sudden lightning storm threatens all those on the mountain.

Source: Weather Channel .just wondering i missed it and just wondering what you think is it real or not.i watched some trailers on you tube.

Well of course it is real Fred. Female prospectors abound, and they often face thieves on their claims while sudden lighting storms threaten everyone!

Nope, did not see it.

I knew it was coming on, but missed the pilots. It is on every Wendsday night at 9PM on the Weather Channel.

I watched it. Heard about it when I was in Tucson at the Gem and Mineral show in February, and was interested enough to take a look at both the intial 2 episodes.
They are gem and crystal miners, not gold prospectors. In a maner sort of like Deadliest Catch, the show follows several groups of miners digging on their various claims for gems and crystal specimens.
Its filmed in a typical over dramatized reality show manner, but the drama is not I hate you, inter-personal difficulty type stuff, but more the difficulties of hunting crystals, the uncertainty of finds, the difficulties of the weather at 13,000 ft elevation on Mt. Antero, dangers of falling / sliding rocks, claimjumpers, etc. All of which are very real challenges to the miners, but their impacts are inflated and over-dramatized to build story interest by the producers of the show - which would have been filmed during the summer of 2012.
