Anyone using Wireless Headphones with there Etrac

Been using the Rapoos for a couple years now. I never leave home without them.
They work great with eTRACs right out of the box with the right adapters.
A plus for me, the Rapoos are not full cup headsets, so no more sweaty ears and i can hear people sneaking up on me!

Words do no justice explaining how great is was to retire my PITA wired 'leash' headsets.
Once you go wireless, you won't go back!

Thank You Sir for your Quick Response!!

I have used the Rapoos also along with the Auvio 33-283 and the TDK WR700 I like the Auvios the best but they are not the most reliable ones as I have 5 pairs and only 2 working at this time. rapoos are a great deal for the price but battery life is only about 4 hours. The TDKs are my favorite since the transmitter as well as the receiver both take AAA batteries so they can be replaced right in the field when they go dead.

Hello Ironsight,

I have a pair and I don't like the tone and the relay to the headset seems choppy. So maybe with the right adapters I can get these to work. When I hook these up to my minelab xs they work perfect.

I have two Rapoo headsets and they both work perfectly with no cut outs, lag, distortion or choppiness.
If it works on another Minelab detector, that would rule out a defective Rapoo headset. Offhand i'd think Minelab designed all their headset jacks all the same but maybe some of the other models differ from the eTRAC.

Could be one of a couple things.
1. Double check that the 1/4" male to female 3.5mm (1/8") adapter that inserts into the eTRAC is STEREO at both ends. I have a short 3.5mm male to 3.5mm female stereo cable that connects the adapter to the rapoos's male 3.5mm input plug. Its extremely important all electrical connections made between the eTRAC and Rapoo xmitter support stereo, all cables and adapters.
Stereo plugs have two rings and a tip-3 conductors, left channel, right channel and common (ground). The longer ring is typically electrical common but with some detectors the common could be either on the tip or smaller ring. As long as you keep all connections stereo it won't matter with the Rapoos.
As an aside thats why some Gray Ghost headsets have detector compatibility controls.

Do not, i repeat do not use mono adapters which have only one ring and tip or a mono 2 conductor cable . Doing so could possibly short and damage the eTRAC's audio output circuitry.

Also keep in mind that most modern detectors internally only output mono audio. However, to support two cup stereo headsets, the single mono audio output is split in two usually at the detectors headset's stereo connector. The headphones are not producing true stereo channels but mono audio at both cup speakers.
In other words, most modern detector companies design their headset jack for common stereo two channel output + common headsets even though its not true stereo.
For single audio tones emitted by metal detectors with one coil a defacto microphone so to speak there's no need for true stereo as in music where true stereo is developed by using two or more microphones.

2.Where do you have the xmitter located on the eTRAC?
I have mine velcro'd on the left arm cup with the volume on/off cup on my right ear. If the Rapoos work on the XS, then it could simply be a matter of xmitter location.

Thank you for all the info. I will mess with it this weekend and see what happens. Thanks again

I initially had some difficulty with my set of Rapoos cutting out and giving me a broken signal. It will sound crazy but it stopped when I made a point of running the headset with side that contains the control (and I assume the receiver) on the same side as I swing the detector. My guess is somehow there was some interference being create by having my body between the two intermittently while detecting/swinging.

Auvio 33-283's. Been using them for years. On my Etrac and my 3030 when I had it. No lag and light weight. Too bad they are not made any more.

Auvio's here too..they work great with no lag and no more being on a leash...never go back to wires again!!

Auvio headphones here too and I love them. Have only one working pair left and will be looking at the Rapoo when these crap out. Have three pairs of the Auvio earbuds but like the headphones better. Weirdest thing: The Auvio headphones won't work at all with the Racer while the Auvio earbuds work perfectly. Don't understand that at all.

I can't even imagine ever going back to being chained to my detector. I don't know how I did it as long as I did.

I am looking to make the switch to a wireless system and was wondering if someone could help me figure out what else I need to purchase along with the Rapoo headsets. I would eally appreciate any advice. Thanks!!

If you have a 1/4 female plug on your detector you will need to get an 1/4 trs to a 3.5mm female adapter

I just got a set of Rapoos, love em. All you need is the adapter that has 1/4 inch male and 1/8 inch female, to go from the small male plug on the transmitter up to the RCA port on the Etrac. Make sure its a stereo adapter like this one

Edit, Duggr beat me to it.

I see the Rapoo advertised but does it come with the Transmitter for $25.00

Rapoo 3070s will run you about $50 for everything you need but the adapter and a short patch cord. I have not seen them sold with just the headset.

Rapoo on the right

Thanks for the quick replies. I really appreciate the help and look forward to making the switch. No more getting tangle up!!
