Anyone using the 12" coil? I am on my second one and....

I'm not impressed. The first one wasn't "V" tuned, so when the coil offer came through from White's I ordered one that was tuned fro my "Vision". Both acted the same. Irratic, unstable, hits were not sollid, Analyse mode wouldn't work on most of the programs. I was using the same settings I use with the 10" D2, and the 12" coil was basically unusable, unless I turned down the RX, or turned off the TX Boost. Then, it wouldn't hit coins as deep as the D2. I might as well stay with the D2. It's stable and will read targets better and deeper than the 12" coil. I used an MXT for several years and used the 12" coil exclusively for relic hunting. Did a great job. Not so with my "Vision" Wondering if anyone else has this problem or is having great luck with their 12" coil on a V3.

Geez! That don't sound good.I was just about to order a Super12 for my Vision.I have one on my DFX which works great. Now,I don't know what to get for the V3,if anything at all.

I am using the 12" super which works fine. I had all sorts of issues with the D2 which has gone back to whites for analysis. The 12" has transformed my detector. I have found though that from bitter expierience the RX gain can rarely be pushed above 10 in any program without erratic nonsense going on in the headphones. Another point of interest is i have given up on the wireless headphones having had severe EMI problems near powerlines and erratic signals. Since changing to standard headphones and using the12" coil the detector has become a dream to use with the only issues being over sensitivity in trashy areas which is to be expected to be fair. I plan to get me one of the small 5.3 or something similar to work in very trashy areas. One other small point ! I have found it much easier to seperate targets that are close together using the 12" coil.

all the best rob

Wow... two reports... one really good, one really bad.

I'd like to hear what a few more people think. People who hunt inland, in parks and old yards.
How does this coil do in bad ground or in medium trash and in higher trash. The ML Pro coil does fine in trash and some other 10s seem to do fine... however I am not sure about the V S12. (All my larger coils are DD design)
I am liking the D2 better all the time. I now have the 5.3 but have not had much of a chance to use it. I have been thinking about trying a S 12 but it's a lot of money for something that might or might not work for me and if it get's a bad rap for use on the V3 I might get stuck with it.

Jbow,

If for some reason the Super 12" didn't work out for you, you wouldn't be "stuck" with it, you could sell it. The V stamped Super 12" is not a V3 exclusive coil - it can be used with the DFX, MXT and M6. All V stamped coils will still work on the DFX, MXT and M6.

I recently bought both the Super 12 and the 5.3, and am very happy with both of them. The 5.3 is great for separation in trashy areas, the Super 12 punches deep.

As far a s concentric coils -Super 12 works fine on the wet and dry salt beach . No False hits , and crown caps vdi lower than coins. Shallow targets to 9" deep for me.

In the dirt , Works as well , However , NOT for trashy parks. For parks I use the 5.3.

The super 12" does not work as well as the D2 in some places. It depends on the mineralization and trash. The Super 12" works best in low to medium mineralization with little or no trash. Remember, you are comparing a 12" conical loop to a 10" DD. Adjustments may need to be made since the 12" is "seeing" a lot more ground at one time than the D2.

I have been, am, and will continue to be a devoted user and promoter of smaller-than-stock coils, such as the excellent 5.3 Eclipse for these models. I use what works and, for me and the types of sites I hunt, smaller coils 'fit' better in and around brush, building rubble, and trash. Sadly, trash can be abundant, and many times it is iron junk that folks have discriminated. Since they usually don't hear it they don't know it's there and the masking it causes.

I always try to operate any mental detector I put to work at 100% maximum potential. That does NOT mean, however, that I operate them with the various Gain, Sensitivity, and other settings at maximum because that can cause instability and noise which means I am not going to get full performance potential out of the detector & coil combination.

I use the lowest Discriminate levels I can tolerate, and the highest Gain/Sensitivity levels I can work w/o there being too much noise/chatter or instability.

Bigger coils see more targets, see more ground, and are more susceptible to outside RF interference than smaller coils. Sometimes, that means things have to be 'turned down' for smoother and/or better performance.

After working the 12" coil off the MXT-300 (a non-'V' tuned coil) on the MXT and Vision/V3 in a variety of sites, as well as the other coils I had for these models, I settled on three coils to fill my needs from White's:

As anticipated, my #1 coil for all general detecting in the 5.3 Eclipse. This is a 6
