Anyone using or has tried amplified headphones on their tector?

I am VERY hearing impaired and while I get by, a louder sound is always welcome. I have an external device I think its called a nugget buster or something similar and it is simply an inline amplifier and also a sound clipper for those extra shallow loud blasts.

I have thought of removing the amp guts and planting them in my headphones so I dont always have to move the lil box from one unit to another. Also, I have considered making a small amp and leaving it attached to the unit permanently. This may be a good way to go in case the fones go out on me.

Having just gotten the X70, I now remember my X30 yrs ago not having the extra loud volume that I could use to make things more pleasant.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a brand of phones that are amplified or if someone has done something like I am considering to do.

Also, is the X705 any louder than the x70???

thanks
Tony

I would also like to know that too, about a set of Amplified Headphones?

I have a DETacc Super Sound In-line Amplifier for my Minelab GP 3000 and I have never ever thought about using it on my X-70. You are making me think I could try it, especially in Prospecting Mode as we use to use amplifiers back in about 1989 on VLF prospecting units. Could experiment and try it on C&J Mode too.

I also read on a post that for sound on the X-70 it is much better to use 150 ohm headphones than to use 30 ohm ones. The 150 ohm headphones can run the volume much lower meaning as it picks up low volumes much better. So make sure you use a 150 ohm pair for sure and not a 30 ohm pair especially if you have bad hearing.

Same quality as the Super Sound made for the SD and GP, however this one works on any brand detector, including the SD and GP. This enhancer uses a 9 volt battery and works in line with your headphones. You plug the Super Sound into the headphone jack of your detector, and then plug your headphones into the Super Sound. Amplifies signals approximately 4 times! Exclusive filtering system gives clean amplified sound without annoying "hum" found in some other amplifiers. You will wonder how you ever lived without it! I have not tried them? I only have 40% in my left ear so i do keep thst one louder. For now it works. I would think that it would work, Beale.

Many thanks to Felix:

(The Tesoro cord could also be put through the middle of the foam handle. The X-Terra's cannot. Use either velcro or plastic ties attaching the cord to the shaft.)

Hey David-

thanks for posting the pics of the extender cables, they sure look nice, clean and functional. A small, inexpensive inline amp would be perfect in that setup too.

Beale,

You have 40% more than I have in either ear. I awoke from a surgery completely deaf as a stump. I now have a hearing implant which works well but has its drawbacks too.

Nice thing tho, I CAN plug the detector directly into the hearing device and not have to wear phones at all. Another feature is that I can also shut off the external sounds when direct connected and not have to hear the wind, the leaves crunching under the feet etc etc. Kinda cool, yet I would sure love to have my old perfect hearing back!
