Anyone using Grey Ghost headphones with...

Bavaria Mike

New member
their XT70? I can not get my GG's to work with my XT70. I plug them in and get the headphone icon but no sound. Haved adjusted the volume setting and have recycled power with the phones plugged in. I have always used headphones and have learned to like it without the phones as there is no cord to interfere but, I still need them in certain situations. Could the GG's be incompatable? Have not tried a different set of phones yet. HH, Mike

Mike, have you used your Selector switch for metal detector compatibility on your headphones. I a newbie and have done this on my black widows with my X50.

Hi Mike, I have Grey Ghost originals on my XT 70, and I have had no problems. I did read a post just recently about someone else having a problem with their headphones, but I can't remember just when. Hunting with headphone is a pain, but you can miss targets by not using them. If I lived where you do I would not want to miss even one target. Try checking the headphone jack on the XT-70 and make sure there is no debri in it. Also you might check the phones out on another detector. HH Dennis in Idaho

Tony may be right. If you haven't switched the stereo/mono toggle, try that. If the X-Terra sounds off without the headphones, and stops when you plug in the headphones, then the problem is likely with the headphones. I know I have to switch my toggle when I use my Whites. HH Randy

are some of the best!.... Digger is right, just flip the switch... it should work fine... if not , you definitely have a problem!...

Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem. I'm going out on a limb to suggest that you make sure you adjusted the volume with the headphones plugged in. If you adjusted the volume, and then plugged in the headphones, you only adjusted the speaker volume, and not the volume for the headphones. Most detectors adjust a single volume control, and it works for both the speaker, and the headphones. The X-Terra 70 has two different adjustments. It can get a bit confusing since there is an adjustment for the speaker, and an adjustment for the headphones. See page 32 in the manual. I hope that is the problem, and not a problem with you X-Terra 70.

Hope this helps,
OldeTymer

Thanks for the suggestion! I did try that, plugged in the phones then adjusted the volume. I have another set of phones I have not tried yet, but, I'm sure the GG's are operational. HH, Mike
Do you like them, if so, what kind and where did you get them? Thanks, John
John: Shennandoah Digger uses them on his XTerra and recommends them as doing very well. I'm considering a set.

His are Radio Shack # 33-1253, price about $60. Might want to PM him for more info; that's what I did and he responded with helpful advice.

No prob, John(TX). If ya get a set let us know how they work. I'm in no hurry now; January was late but it's here for sure now, so no digging for awhile.
