Anyone used the:minelab:8"_and_SunRay 8" ?

Just curious if there was any difference in stability,Target ID or depth ? Anyone ?

I've used both on my Explorer II but kept my Sun Ray 8". Pretty close to the same except in one department, the weight. The Sun Ray is much lighter and really makes a big difference in your swing and comfort at the end of the day.

I found the SunRay to be too noisy and got rid of it. The Minelab is heavy, but stable.

That X-8 seem to be more stable, easier to swing and has great depth. I feel I learned more about the Explorer with using this coil and been the one I use on my E-Trac now 95% of the time to help learn it.

I have a ML FBS 8" and a 6" Excellerator. I never warmed up to the 6" at all. I used the 8" all the time on my SE but with the Pro coil I have felt no need for a smaller coil. I tried it a couple of times with my ET but I didn't see where it made any difference. I guess if I were in a place where the Pro coil would not physically fit.. then i'd use the 8" coil. The pro coil seem, to me, to work just fine in trash. With the SE and the slimline coil it was a different story, there is a huge difference in stability between the slimline 10.5 and the 8" FBS... a world of difference. The Pro coil changed everything.

Are there any woods hunters out there that can give me a clue on what's best to use ?....
Thank You ALL for responding. I thought there might be more :minelab: Explorer / or / Etrac users that had previous experiences so I could make a more educated decision between the 2 coils.
The weight question does not bother me as much as.......Difference in Depth ? Stability ? Separation ?............I already have the Pro coil, the 5" SunRay,and now a 15 X 18" beast of a coil for more coverage and Quarter or larger coins at depth.
The 5" SunRay sees minimal use ,mainly because there aren't that many trashy sites I can't handle with the Pro Coil, even tho I thought I might need the 5" more,It just does't see that much use.I have been hunting wooded areas a bit more, and the pro coil gets hung on about every vine or twig laying on the ground. Tried the 5" in the woods and, works fine but coverage sucks  LOL .
I have been thinking more about hunting with the 8" size coil, cause it looks like it may glide threw the grass ,and get hung up in the vines/twigs less than the Pro coil......Has anyone found that the 8" works better in the woods than the Pro Coil,or am I spinning my wheels ?..........Also I had been hunting for years withn the 8" coil on my :compass: detectors, and I liked how they glided threw the grass, and would not get hung in the vines....BUT.....the :compass: 8 & 12 " coils are all flat with no holes in the coils at all.
Thanks for all replies in advance..

Mc I have used both and sold both, bought a 4.5"X7" Excelerator coil seems to go just a deep and easy to use in the woods and corn stuble fields with out giving up to much coverage. Again only my opinion!

How about trying a solid cover for your Pro coil? I hear that the Tesoro 11" coil will fit. Maybe that will stop it from getting hung up, and you might find you do not need another coil? Just throwing out some ideas.

Good luck!

Thanks Frank........I just seen that coil/lower shaft combo sell on Ebay a couple days ago........Should have bid on it but, wanted to get more of an idea what my small coil options might be.. Thanks for the info...I'll have to read up on them now.

Thanks Zincoln..........I just wrote that down..............My only concern might be..........Would the Top of the coil still hang up on the vines?Probably not................just thinking :wiggle:

the post below on the 8th said that the Tesoro 11" solid cover fits the e-trac pro coil....that's what I would do...Ray
