Anyone used a DFX/MXT Eclipse Deepscan 1400 Coil

Looking for some input from users, good or bad, experience. I was thinking about purchasing one.

In my soil, I found that it could get about 15-20% more in-ground depth on coins then would the standard 950 coil. But the 1400 also covers about 40% more ground per sweep then does the 950. More importantly, on 6" dimes the "at depth" ground coverage is about 3 (300%) times that of the 950. (In other words, the "window" of target acceptance on really deep stuff is about 3 times that of the 950). For really deep coins in not-so-trashy areas, where you also want to cover a lot of ground, the 1400 is truly outstanding. It does weigh more then the stock 950; 24 oz versus 16 oz. Do I like mine? Yep! Hope this helps; HH Jim

Yeah, great where you can use it. Not good for trashy areas though, as can be expected.

On a typical beach it hits deep and yet is sensitive enough to pick up the small alum. 'tongue,' the tab from the pull tab and bits of broken jewelry. I picked up 1/2 a toe ring, .22 lead (spent) bullet, links from ankle bracelet, small piece of cheap broken jewelry.

Depth indication is on the shallow side. Targets are about 10 - 20% deeper than indicated.

I could not use it in the wet sand on a fresh water beach because of all the trashy targets near the surf line. Worked OK on a lesser used portion of the beach. Of course there was less there to find.

I have a SunRay In Line Probe too and it really gets heavy but I use the probe more for the small stuff that is hard to pinpoint or to find in the dirt/sand. Make sure you mount the coil with the longer portion from the handle mounting ears towards you, not away as you would expect. This helps on the weight distribution.

As Jim says, covers much more ground per sweep. Builds up your arm too. I usually use my right arm. Switched to left arm and could only tolerate it for about 5 - 10 minutes. Tired right arm was still better.

Remember to swing it slower than you may be used to with the standard coil. There is a lot of signal to process for the MXT.

The 1400 deep scan is an excellent coil and anyone who wants to find deeper targets or cover more ground I would highly recommend it. I bought mine a little over a month ago and found it to be very sensitive to small objects and get deep targets. It goes deeper than the 14" & 18" excellerator coils, it is a little heavier that the stock coil and it's difficult to pinpoint with other than that I am glad I bought it.

Other than the wgt, I like it. As for pinpointing- Mine seems to do well if I get over the target , pull back and it usually fades out right as the target touches the word WHITES near the tip.

Faint signals are touchy, but you can cross at 90 degrees too. Detuning by pulling the trigger quickly twice on a fairly strong target will make for a smaller target--and a little easier to pinpoint.

If the threshold is just audible it won't make too much moise-- I ran it pretty much flat out that way looking for nuggets on Labor Day and it was fine. (skunked).
The Bigfoot is a worthy contender- covers 18inches (with the back half giving a broken, but useable signal on the MXT- works normally on the DFX. Taking both to the UK this Oct. The Bigfoot is doing well there.

Good luck--
Gary

A friend uses the 1400 on his MXT, he likes the performance and depth but it is a little heavy and throws the balance off. HH, Mike
