Anyone use the eclipse 950 coil much?

Hello,

I have a DFX that came with only the eclipse 6x10 DD coil. Anyone use the 950 coil?

Thinking of picking one up to try. Whats everyone's opinion on the stock coil. Likes and dislikes. I do like the pinpointing of concentric coils.

Thanks, James

I always used the 950 coil when I owned Whites. Even used it on the V3i ...My optional coil was the 5".

Same as Elton.........i loved the 950 coil. The 950 is a great all round coil with good depth and ability to find small targets in trashy areas.I used mine over here in England on ancient sites and have found tiny hammered coins in amongst the iron with this coil.
I also used the coil on my M6 at the beach with a lot of success.......it was better than the 12" coil at the beach, more sensitive at greater depths on rings and easier to swing.Overall it's a much underated coil.

James,

Yes, I have used the 950 coils, both the earlier thin-profile that couldn't be opened and repaired, and the latter/current sort of dome-shaped 950. Most of my hunting is in dense trash, building rubble and brush, so medium to larger-size coils are not used very often. Sports fields, large grassy parks, and searching plowed fields are the main times I opt for a 'standard' size coil.

If you would like a Concentric coil, which I have preferred on the Eclipse series, I also agree with Oregon Gregg's suggestion below, and that is to get the 9" spider-type Concentric coil.

It looks better and feels better because the rod-mount is a little closer to the coil's center axis than the 950 housing design. A much nicer balance, and this more modern design functions quite well by comparison.

Over the years I have found thousands of items with the 950 coil. I preferred the older flat coil over the newer fat coil, but I have to agree with Greg and Monte on the new 9" spider coil. It's just a better over all design, weighs less, gest excellent depth and pinpoints very well.

Thanks for all the input. I'll ponder on this for awhile. And see what kind of deals I come across.

Anymore I mainly hunt fields and pasture, and a little bit of woods.

All your thoughts are greatly appreciated,
James

In my opinion the 950 concentric is probably the best all-round coil for the DFX that Whites have produced. Covers all modes, including the beach, & goes as deep as any other DFX compatible coil.

M y second choice, particularly on the beach, is the Detech 13" DD coil, which covers a lot more ground, & goes pretty deep.

I also have the Eclipse 6x10 DD, Eclipse 5.3' concentric & the Eclipse 6x10 DD, but these are seldom used, now.

The great thing about the Whites Coils, I can also use them on my MX5, as I did when I had a V3i.

Hi James, I have a pretty much brand new 950 eclipse coil, v rated that was replacement for the one that came on my DFX, comes with a coil cover. I was looking to trade it for a like new Trx pinpointer or would take cash if you decide to pursue your interest in the 950. I prefer the 6x10, and the 5.3 coils.
