Anyone use the Compadre in water? I may water proof

I'm thinking about placing the housing in a gsi lexan box for water hunting. Appoximately $20 to do it.

Anyone try water with the compadre? How does it fair? I'm guessing all metal would be the preferred search mode.
I'm only considering fresh water.

Thanks in advance.

Probably will work out fine for shallow buried objects. Once they sink past the Compadres depth of detection, they will not be found.
Gold is heavy and will tend to sink faster in shifting sands. Other than that, it should work fine.
What you can try doing is going to the beach, make a temporary test garden in the water and see how deep the Compadre will actually go.

One thing to remember is solid closed center coils tend to float, you would have to put a lot of pressure onto the handle with your wrist to keep it down.
Or add cement disc to the top of the coil to weight it down. And or find an open center coil and weight it.

I was thinking about using one of the Tesoros myself and making a new U/W detector, if I could find one cheap.
If I were to use a Compadre, I would think about adding sensitivity controls as well as manual GB.

Good luck, doesn't hurt to try it.
